Hey all,

I've had my 1.4 EcoTsi for a month now and noticed a strange intermittent smell, that you only ever smell outside and in the middle of the car.

I've had a sniff around the exhaust and engine bay resulting in nothing but sniffing around the driver seat it does.

Can't see any signs of leaks or anything?

Anyone experienced anything like this or know where to start?

It’s probably the last owner pumping all kind of farts into the drivers seat mate. Probably need to burn the drivers seat and replace with a new one. That’s what I’d do.

? whilst i'd probably agree with you, the smell is only on the outside of the car ?

Could be coolant smell. Check water pump and rad etc. What does it smell like??? Roses or what ??

Smells like a faint oil burning smell but I can't see anything that can explain it.

I can smell it as soon as I open the doors but when I smell at the front/rear of the car I can't, so assume it's at the back of the engine.

Pull off engine cover. Get a clean cloth wipe around back of engine to see if any oil is coming out of rocker cover give it smell to see if its same. Also check for oil around turbo(oil feed line). Another idea is crank seal could be weeping a bit. Does your car use much oil??. (Couple of ideas for you). Could also be clutch if you rest your foot on clutch peddle, but clutch smell is diff to oil so probably not that.

Thanks mate.

I've only had it a month so not 100% sure on oil usage. I checked it yesterday and it seems fine, but I wasn't sure what it was at before hand.

I'll have a scan around the areas you suggested.

Engine bay in general is fairly clean but I've noticed around the coil packs/act modules that there is something on top of the engine but what's weird is I can't smell anything from there.

Could also just be spilled oil from when it was serviced before you bought it. Any more questions just ask boss. Take care ?
