Disappointing state of Cupra Leon ehybrid sportstourer I've bought

Good advice on the HP for you there, what a pain you have that over the car as well. The more i think about it the more the car looks like its been absolutely ragged, for something that’s basically brand new at 4k miles that’s terrible. I would just drive it back, dump the keys on the owners desk and demand a refund right away, personally.

Thanks, yes the hp is a pain as I never ever take it and always pay cash. I did it because it gave me 2 free services and I was going to pay it straight off.
I am putting it all in writing now. I've told them I want to visit today to take it back

While not useful in isolation to the OP my Cupra Leon Hybrid, with 3 miles on it, was also delivered in less than ideal condition -

It literally looked like it had been sat in a sand/dust storm and someone ran a damp sponge all over it. When I opened the door handles sand fell from behind them and when I opened the petrol flap there was dust/grit/sand packed in there.

Not the end of the world I know and not damage as such like the OP but not what you expect for a new car with 3 miles on the clock.

@Sarah - I know you were looking forward to getting the car so I'm gutted for you. I hope you can get it sorted.

When i first went to look at my 280 last year (Marshal Braintree) it had only just come in the past 3 days and gone straight into the workshop for a new cambelt and water pump, it was absolutely filthy. After the test drive i said the clutch was slipping on it (it was) plus i found a socket peice in the engine bay, I wasn’t impressed to say the least and told them if they expect a cash sale they better buck there ideas up.

They handled it very well. The engineer got a bollocking for the socket in writing which they gave me a copy of, the car was properly detailed before pick up and was absolutely gleeming from stem to stern. The clutch work was put off until i came back from holiday for the week as I wanted the car for the journey. Soon as i got back they called me up and booked it in, plus a curtesy car.

All comes down to how issues are dealt with.

Thanks for your replies Griff and Fishbowlhead. I think most of them are poor at polishing and that's one of the reasons I always turn down their ridiculously pricey paint protection because they usually just apply it over swirls and scratches. I agree, that's rubbish for 3 miles.

I emailed the business manager early this morning who I dealt with when I bought it as the salesman is off until tomorrow. Told him that I want to drop the car off today and leave it there - reject it.
Sent him photos etc and told him that it looks like it's been abused etc and hasn't been driven gently like we are supposed to drive a new car. I realise with a demo car that several people might drive it but not damage it like this. I've never seen a tyre with so much damage and the damaged wheel is on the other side so both sides have been knocked. It's the coolant that's bothering me as well, wondering why it's low, has it leaked and if that's from topping up, why did it need topping up.
I got a call from the business manager. He's offsite today. He was with the general manager. They want me to visit tomorrow and see them both so that to me is going in an office with them and them bullying me into keeping it. Times like this I wish that I was till married and didn't have to go on my own.
I told him that I just want to take it back, I don't want a scene or trouble, I just want to quietly take it back and hand him the keys. He was still saying go in tomorrow and talk to them both.
I have spoken to the finance company about the £3k finance on it. They have told me what happens if they agree to reject tomorrow (the dealer just sends the finance company a rejection form and the finance is wiped out). If the dealer doesn't want to reject it tomorrow, the finance company told me to go to them and they will look into rejection. She has logged the issues on their system so I will get a reference number etc for if I want to take it further after tomorrow if I can't just leave it there.
So it's another day where I'm carless as I don't want to drive it when all I want to do is take it back. It hasn't moved since I brought it home on Friday. It's just sat on my drive.

Did you get anywhere with them or did you have to sort the holograms out yourself?

They initially offered me "£20 towards a valet" which I laughed off.

They then said their "specialist partner" would rectify it who turned out to be ChipsAway who wanted to respray the bonnet which I refused.

It went backwards and forwards for a couple of weeks but we, unfortunately, had a death in the family which naturally took priority and after that, I lost interest in fighting a battle over poor paint and dirt.

That's crazy wanting to respray a bonnet. It could make it look like it had had a crash to the next owner.
I need a car to take my dad back and forth for dialysis, he's waiting for a 2nd kidney transplant which I don't think he will get so I get you that car irritations can be minor compared to serious issues. I just need a car that I can rely on and have confidence in.
I'm not looking forward to tomorrow now. It's a shame because the car looks great. It got lots of attention on the way home or were they thinking oo look at the state of the wheel I'm just worried how it's been treated and I feel like they've taken me for a mug being a woman, they probably didn't think a 50 year old woman would be interested in lifting the bonnet or checking the tyre pressures

Can’t you take your husband with you? Or failing that take a mate and say he’s your bf or whatever, someone mean looking enough that they will think twice about saying something insulting to you. Lets face it they WILL try something as they figure you’ll just roll over over the issues.

I don't have a husband and can't think of anyone to take I'm afraid. I do have a female friend who is very straight to the point. She would just scare them. She scares me sometimes

Maybe your friend could be persuaded to visit with you; just having another person present to even up the numbers will make a big difference, otherwise there is a very strong chance these two sales guys (I'm assuming both are men) will try to mansplain and bully you into submission. Standing your ground is not easy in such a situation, but try to remember all of us on here will be with you in spirit.

Thanks. I appreciate that. The friend I am thinking of would probably lose her temper and she swears like a sailor so she might not be the best one to take.
I've just been talking to another dealer who has just phoned me, who I was getting a price from at the same time last week and I told him. He said I'm within my rights to leave it there tomorrow and get a refund when I've described it to him.
I'm sure they will mansplain as you say etc. I don't think it's right to be honest expecting a woman with a problem to sit there with two senior people. I can just imagine how it will be. They said that there has only been only salesman driving it and I've just found 5 different names/phones paired onto the bluetooth system.

Given they have lied to you about the salesman driving the car I would note the names and ask them what jobs they do .
If possible take your friend with you or/ and when you go in take your phone out and record all the meeting .
Be firm and tell them you are rejecting the car and want it done when you are there and the money in your bank before you leave .
I would suggest having the meeting in the showroom and not in the office if possible.

I would write a letter to Cupra head office about this as well, sales people sound like they’ve lied through their teeth and everyone has been having a jolly up in what should be a brand new car, make a note of all the names the system has come up with a photo.

Thanks everyone. I've just taken a photo of the paired phones, one was Chloe and one was Poo Bear's mum. Others were different men. Probably the salesman's wife and daughter included. Who knows. I've just checked and there are at least 5 different people paired to it and what looks like 6 phones. They said yesterday that the salesman had driven it and it 'might' have been leant to customers. I've been thinking about this and we've been in lockdown and they didn't open til the middle of April 2021. It's a December 20 car so I can't see how it's been how to many customers from April to now. I'm thinking it's the salesman's family who have been ragging it about. Surprised it hasn't got supermarket dings in it. I never pair my phone if I'm only borrowing a car and haven't even paired it to this one.
I'm not even looking forward to driving it there or the meeting. I'm off now. Will check in later.
