Not done it myself, but looking at the tool, looks like there are two clips on the left you need to push inwards to the right , then lift the gator up.
I have only ever done the A pillars and they were a pain to remove as the metal clips have a good hold.

Also bear in mind, maybe try from the other side if you have not tried already as diagrams are usually from a European left hand drive car.

I’ve removed mine before, it helps if you pull up gently with the gator “leather” at the same time as prying it

Did it!

I put a plastic tools from 3 sides, left, right and bottom and later i found out that the clips are all over the plastic rim.

Unfortunatelly, i was hoping to have more to greace as there is nothing more than some plastic ball at the bottom of the gear stick, put some silicon spray in it in order to make shifting more smooth.

I did the same thing with the shifting cables.

@Ogi have you tried the procedure for resetting the cable tensions on the gear linkages on the manual transmission?

This adjustment will make everything much smoother. I used to do this between summer/winter and readjust winter/summer as the change in temperature caused the box to become notchy.

It’s a fairly quick procedure once you know what you are doing.

Haven't heard this one - is it in the workshop manuals?

The procedure is in the Manual Gearbox workshop manuals - Chapter 34, Section 1.7

Video here on the 5spd, but common to all VAG manual boxes:

In summary, airbox out to gain access to top of gearbox. Then a 5 min job.
Ace, i'll have a play later.
Just for completeness in the 6 speed 02Q & 0FB manual I notice it is chapter 34, section 2.6 & yes looks exactly the same as the 5 speed video linked.

An official dealer have done linkage adjustment, not very helpful though.

Anyway, after i greased the cables and the plastic little ball just beneath the stick, i feel difference, not much but i can feel it and on this shitty gearbox, even the slight positive change means a lot:
