So it looks like this has been asked a couple times in the past but just in case things have moved on in recent times…

how are wireless CarPlay adapters these days for pairing with a MIB2? I’m really enjoying using CarPlay but the wire is a bit annoying so I’m wondering if the 3rd party wireless adapters are any good and if anyone has personal experience with a specific model, pros/cons etc

I have the CarSifi adapter for Wireless Android Auto and it has been brilliant! I'm using a Pixel 6 Pro. When it updated to Android 13 it broke the functionality somehow ? Waiting for either the adapter or the phone to be updated to continue using it.

Only drawback is, they use a lot of battery on your phone. For a quick trip, it's not bad, but ideally I'd like a wireless charging pad (Seat do one) under the console to just throw my phone in and forget about it

I’ll give that one a look, I hadn’t anticipated the extra power draw from using wireless so I’d need to rethink my charging. I got a nice mous brand MagSafe holder with a nice strong hold and they do a charger version too so I might swap to that one and see how it’s performance is.

The Mous MagSafe Charger is a great shout. Just bought one for the misses. Far better than manual clip in systems. Charging works great as well ?

As has been said, CarPlay wireless does drain the battery some what, that is using an adaptor for the Leon or the inbuilt one I have on my new car.

I made myself a wireless charging pad by dissecting the one you can buy for the pre facelifted cars.

As for the Wireless CarPlay, its not 100% perfect, I bought 2, the CarLinKit from Amazon at like £100 I think, but I'd also had another on order. I paid express delivery but it just never got posted. Ended up in dispute with PayPal, and then they posted it the day before the PayPal limit.

Long Story short a friend bought that one off of me, but despite the different brand, they were in fact identical, just one had a different stamp.

I suspect the one I received late was the copy though.

There maybe newer brands out now, as it was 2-3 years ago I bought it.

As well as battery life just bare in mind, it takes longer to connect, probably 30-60 seconds. And then for most things its bang on.

However, for phone calls, some calls there would be a clear delay, enough to make calls awkward. However as I didn't like being on the phone whilst driving it never bothered me as I was usually stationary.

That being said, I experienced the same delay on the new BMW I have now on one call, so it may not be the adaptor at fault.

My previous posts in my old build thread...

Wireless Charger:

Can't find my old post about the wireless CarPlay oddly.

Edit found it:

Cheers for those Damo, great write up by the way. I’ve got a iPhone 13 Pro Max which with case is a bit too big for the tray so I’m gonna stick with the mag mount.

I think it might just be a case of buying a wireless dongle and seeing how it goes as it seems so far they have temperamental moments but overall are worth it and on long trips I wouldn’t mind pulling the cable connection out if needs be.
