Keyless Entry/Exit Is it me ? or the car ?

This is the first time I have had a car with keyless entry, I assumed that when I walk up to the car it would unlock as I get there (which it does perfect)
but when I exit the car and walk away the car doesn't lock automatically ? is it something I'm not doing? is that how it's supposed to be ? is it a setting in the infotainment that needs changing ? or is it a fault ?
I feel it's probably me not understanding how it works

It's keyless locking, not 'completely unlocking', you need just hold the front door handle for a second to unlock the door/s before you open it (or pull it twice if you're too quick) and then press the button on the door handle when the key is in range to lock the door/s (depending which setting you have). I.e. you don't need to 'use' the key to lock / unlock (but you can use it if you wish).

I've always kept my key in my pocket and used keyless unlocking/locking. Simply put your hand in as if to pull open the door (front only) to unlock and place your thumb or finger only onthe small indentation on the outside of the door handle to lock.

I use the key most of the time but occasionally it's handy to use if your carrying things to and from the car and the keys in your pocket lol

And don't forget to wave your foot under the rear bumper like an idiot when your hands are full, which is when the boot WON'T open, but when you don't really need it or you're just testing of course it works perfectly!

Having said that it's a lot better than my two Discovery Sports, the 'gesture' tailgate was utterly hopeless and did indeed occasionally get the two-finger gesture!

Anyone else find that if you have your keys in your pocket next to your phone then the keyless entry is a bit hit and miss?

Regardless, the most annoying feature is not being able to lock the car from the boot. So you get out, close the door, then go to the boot to get something out, close it, then you have to go back to the door to lock it! Sure you can lock it before going to the boot, then unlock just the boot, but if you have a passenger you're often stood around waiting for them to get out etc. Both our previous cars with keyless entry had the option to lock the car on the boot.

surely it would be simpler to just walk away from the car and it locks automatically rather than having to touch the handle... lol

I don’t like keyless because of the potential security risks. Maybe the security risk is no longer an issue if the current generation of Cupra cars use the latest generation of key fobs that go into sleep mode after a short period of inactivity or movement?

My VW has keyless entry / keyless start. It was part of the car’s standard spec but if it hadn’t been, I’d never have paid extra to spec it. I can also lock and unlock the car by touching the sensors on the car’s front door handles. However, with my car I have the ability to disable the keyless functionality when I lock the car and that’s what I always do.

I am the same, so I got the dealer to switch it all off at delivery and it works just like my old 280 did, no extra security risks for me.

Yes - close the door and just swipe your finger on the outside of the handle.

Mine is pretty reliable actually, opens first time 99% of the time. Maybe you have tiny feet... ?

Same here - all new. One thing that I was pretty relieved about was leaving my keys in the car at a supermarket and it still opened. Always in my pocket now.

But that’s only for one cycle, a real pain you can’t permanently disable it. I have it, because that’s what came as standard, but I’d never have specced it. Same with wiggly foot boot opening - a button on the fob, drivers door and boot lid lip was fine on my Audi.

Yes, it is just one cycle, but IMHO the extra step of touching the sensor on the door handle after locking the car using the key fob Isn’t a big deal for me. I’ve done it since day one of getting the car just over two years ago, so the procedure has just become second nature.

Be aware there is a gotcha scenario though, if you open the boot and someone else loads the boot and you then get into the car. The boot will refuse to shut because it doesn't want to lock the keys in by accident. So you end up fighting the car trying to shut it, it keeps reopening it. Drives u mad.
