One thing maybe to watch out for, from my recent experience of VW Group parts is, this item on some/many cars gets revised frequently and the advice is to replace both at the same time - maybe a suggestion that is obvious from a wear point of view, but not something that I had considered previously as also being needing consideration due to new parts being upgraded/revised.
As far as aftermarket is concerned, well at least TRW, it seems that their first offering remains their only offering in the case of the car I was working on, ie 2009 SEAT Ibiza 1.4 86PS droplinks same aftermarket part number as 2015 VW Polo 1.2TSI 110PS, while the VW Group part fitted at factory to that Polo has been revised from being a U section maybe reinforced nylon part on to an alloy tube part. Just something to be aware of.

Before you try to remove the large nut - clean the threads - otherwise the tiny triple square tool that is supposed to hold the centre will probably snap! Ask me how I know

Exactly, and maybe check if a TX30 fits it and not the frequently used in VW Group cars, TX27 - finding that out prompted me to buy in 2 TX30 1/4 bits this week!
A "medium quality" set of taps and dies that I had to buy when I first needed to work on a VW Group product, ie 2002 VW Polo back in January 2006, was one of the best buys I've ever made! Life would have been much easier if I had bought that before than, but I didn't reckon that VW Group fastenings on a 2002 VW Polo were just CZ carp!

The Leon MK3 drop link uses a triple square drive XZN in the centre.
I have used torx in the past when 'surprised' by a triple square! but a XZN set isn't expensive.
Oh, I didn't consider that, now I'll need to check that out as I've got XZN bits - well I'll check on the new VW Group droplinks that are waiting to get used!
I've just checked the new VW Group ones for the Polo/Ibiza/Fabia/A1 and they are TX30 - and, when I checked my Draper bit set, the only bit that has been broken is the TX30 - so probably back in January 2006 it would have been the 2002 Polo drop link that caused that!
So that left a bit set with one very short but still usable, TX30 bit damaged, I gambled on Laser Tools bit set using the same "hex size" and as they sell spare bits, I bought one, so that slot got filled with a new bit. I might use that broken bit again for holding a drop link "end" not much more can happen to that one, if it broke again, I'd be able to bin it or grind it down and use it for "knocking things out!.
