leaking front shocks.

It is common. I’ve had to replace 1 in the last year n a half, and now another is leaking

I thought it was more an issue with the suppliers that VW Group used.
Round about the time that my daughters 2009 Ibiza need it’s front springs replacing as one had snapped at the top, so that means 2017, the general VE Group forum chat or thinking was, it was a no brainier to change the front dampers at the same time - or you’d end up doing that 6 months or less down the line from disturbing the ones on the car! I accepted that, but that was with Sachs front struts, seems same for these “smart” struts - not good.

Good to know there's an option other that SEAT
18plate Cupra 300 with nearly 75k on the clock and no leaks to my knowledge. Maybe I just got a good batch of them on mine as they have not exactly been driven easily. so I sense that bill is coming.

MONROE C2516S Shock Absorber - appx £140 each
Rears areMONROE C1521S Shock Absorber - appx £145 each
Have had a few parts from them for my MX5 - delivery seems to be about a week for stock items.
I've used Autodoc once and everything went well, the main possible issue with dealing them might be if you are attracted by the amazing low prices from brands that you would not normally hear about, as long as you stick with the brands that we in UK know and trust, it should go okay, especially if you already know the brands part numbers for what you need to buy, I'd assume a 10 day turn round time for your order, if it arrives in 7 days so much the better. I've not ordered any thing since proper Brexit rules were rolled out, either that or my order was just sub £100, I'd think that they will be fully up to dealing with customers from outside the EU market. I don't know where the "cut in" price point is or if you are heading over that price point, that you could order a single strut twice to avoid breaking through that price point.
My SAAB friend, ordered a clutch plate and cover for his old 96, and he said that he paid a small premium for them to more or less guarantee that the correct parts were being supplied - I've never looked for or noticed that extra service, but in the event, the clutch plate did not suit the gearbox splines, so a quick email, they emailed a returns label, their chosen carrier collected the repackaged clutch set, and once that was logged in with their chosen carrier, they despatched what turned out to be the correct parts, so that worked out well for him, okay maybe an extra 10 days or less delay, but for a hobby car, not a problem. That did surprise me slightly, but good to know.
Edit:- the parts that I used autodoc to supply were a pair of front wheel bearing assemblies, for that job I needed to get and fit a proper quality brand, but at a sensible price, autodoc sold F A G at at very good price when compared with any other UK based sources or VW Group, so I was happy to try them out, again I knew that that car had a front bearing issue but it was still usable so delivery time was not a huge issue when making significant savings.
Hopefully the same for the struts.

Got my Bilsteins from here. They've gone up slightly in recent months but still £150 chepaer than Demon.
I'm pretty suspicious of aftermarket replacements for critical parts like dampers etc.
When I was replacing the fuel filter on my daughter's Toledo I went onto Autodoc and there were a long list of suitable filters listed. Cross checking revealed that the same filters were recommended for lots of different cars. When I checked the VW parts I found that there were different part numbers given for different Seat cars where Autodoc just listed the same filter for all of them.
The official filter wasn't that much more expensive so I ordered that from my local Seat dealer. When I picked it up I asked to speak to the service manager and asked him why the filters they supplied had different part numbers depending on the car.
He said that although the filters looked identical on the outside and would fit, each filter had a calculated amount of resistance to work correctly in a given fuel system. If you fit the wrong filter you can get issues down the line and people think it's something wrong with the engine when the problem is actually caused by the fuel filter they fitted.
