Does PR code 8RM mean I have a 4-channel amp with full-range signal?

Hi all,

I have a 2017 Seat Leon 5F with PR code 8RM (8 speakers, passive).

Does this mean my system is using a 4-channel amp (built into the head unit) with full-range signal going to each speaker pair (front/rear)?

I'm planning to install an aftermarket subwoofer and want to confirm if it's safe to tap into the rear speaker wires without missing low frequencies.

Thanks in advance!

8RM is 6 channels
front left high
Front right high
Front left low
Front right low
Rear left high and low
Rear right high and low

9VD is also 6 channels (seat sound)
Front left high and low
Front right high and low
Rear left high and low
Rear right high and low
Subwoofer
Dash speaker

Install Seat Sound and benefit from an overall improvement rather than just bass

i Will start With the sub i have already, and maybe upgrade further in the future.

Thank you very much. Now I just need to find a diagram for the radio harness of this type, to know which wires are the rear speakers. Would you happen to have that at hand aswell?

Connector T8c (Marked with D in illustration below)

pin 4 : rear left positive (red/white)
pin 8 : rear left negative (brown/white)
pin 1 : rear right positive (red/purple)
pin 5 : rear right negative (brown/purple)

Thank you all, I have now installed my sub and Pioneer mono amp (hi level compatible).

Another issue: the signal is drawn directly from the rear speakers to the amp, but the bass seems to be rumbling and not punchy as usual with my hardware in other cars.

Is the problem that the car adjust the eq-dynamically and what Could be the fix?

I found a few issues with this when I tried to utilise the rear signal as the only inputs for the dsp.
1. The balance/ fader doesn’t work properly anymore. This is more of an annoyance really as the dsp should be used to set all the levels.
2. the rear signal is turned down a bit and not as powerful as the front.
3. BT phone and other signals don’t work anymore. This was the main reason I persevered and found out how to work with a split front signal.

Sorry, noob question, but just how much of this, is applicable to my setup? This seems to indicate the brown block (Area D):
Pin1 and 5 = Rear Right
Pin2 and 6 = ?
Pin3 and 7= ?
Pin4 and 8= Rear Left
In addition,
I also have wires in:
Pin9 and 13 =?
Pin10 and 14=?

In the brown block, can somebody help me identify the 2 other signals?

Mathyou78,

when you took the rear signal, they would have been "High level". How did you convert them back to low level? (or does your DSP accept Hi, but then it would have to "unpower" them)

1. Where are you using the balance/fader function? OEM HU?
2. Yes, that seems correct, the Head Unit outputs weaker on the rear channels, so I have been told.
3. BT Phone, don't know. So what did you change?

10-14 Front center +-

Yep. I have these details. Here you go. Note that I annotated the picture of the HU connections with the actual connections for my car.

Yes, the dsp (Audison Forza C8.14) converts the high level inputs.
1. Yes, this was at the HU. Although as I said, you don’t really use this once the system is set up. My inner geek just couldn’t live with it not working correctly!
2. Although I should add that I think the signal is about 80hz upwards, not a true full range.
3. I bought a Audison Forza dsp amp and used it to create a combined pair of flat front channels via the dsp’s Wizard and manual adjustment of the input RTA.

That’s not correct for the 8RM setup. I think you’re referring to Seatsound or Beats Audio, 9VD.

Sorry for the confusion, you're right but only to some extent.

According to the official service manuals, cars with the PR code 8RM built up to May 2016 uses separate pin 10/14 and pin 9/13 pairs for front bass speakers.

After that date, they changed the setup, so front bass and treble speakers are fed through the same pin pairs 2/6 and 3/7, like it was in 9VD.

I can provide screenshots from the manual if needed.

Mine is a 2018 FR Technology and 100% has front bass on pins 9 - 14. The front door speaker wire colours match the quad lock at pins 9-14 per my description too. I’ve also continuity tested the wires previously.

I have the manuals myself. I can tell you that none of the wire colours are a complete match to my car. Imagine the confusion I had working that out. Good eh!

OK, hands-on experience can't be beaten :)
I have come across with incorrect wire colours, but incorrect pin numbers ? That's really sloppy of SEAT.

Here they are, but after what @mathyou78 said, not sure that they're to be trusted.
I'd double-check the wire continuity.

Thank you very much! I am replacing a blown front bass speaker this weekend, I might try turning on the radio, when it is disconnected. If the tweeter stops playing they are connected as in your diagrams, if it works, the tweetet and bass is separate?

Think the car will throw fault codes if turned on With a speaker disconnected?😅
