Hi Everyone,

I have a 1.5 petrol DSG CUPRA Formentor. Just wondering what everyone does with regards to service intervals?

The dealer in Darlington which I got the car from 10 months ago from new emailed me today saying my service is due soon and would I like to book it in.

But when I checked the car computer it’s says it’s not due for another year and 20k miles.

Turns out there are two type of service and just depends what the dealer sets up from new.

Fixed- 1 year and 10k miles
Flexible- 2 year and 20k miles (or when computer tells you.

20k miles seems crazy to me with the same oil. My last car, Honda civic would only do 6k.

Thanks all.

Personally I would suggest sticking to annually for at least an oil change. Also, I would strongly recommend Vasstech as a specialist garage in Darlington

Had my first service at 2yrs (9k miles) on the 1.5 V2. Dealer also messaged me after a year to say service was due. I regularly check the oil levels and everything was fine. I therefore go by what the car tells me. The car will be monitoring how you drive and the engines will have been tested etc.

Why have the car advise you when a service is required if you need to do it every year?

Thanks both. Think I’ll keep an eye on the oil and if it looks very dark might take it in sooner. Currently looks new and clear still after 8k miles.

When I got the car from new I paid an extra £100 and for that I got the first two services included in any UK dealer . Bit of a bargain I thought.

I think the default service regime for Cupra and other VAG brands is flexible servicing and the no. of days until the next service service displayed by the car‘s computer will reflect that, unless it’s been changed to fixed servicing at the owner’s request.

VW provide guidelines on their website on whether fixed or flexible servicing is the most appropriate, based on the way the car is used;

Fixed;
  • If you drive fewer than 9,300 miles per year
  • If you mainly drive in the city, or if you make frequent short journeys
  • If you often carry out hill climbs, towing, and driving with multiple passengers
Flexible;
  • If you regularly drive more than 25 miles per day
  • If you regularly drive long-distance
  • If you drive at a constant speed with a minimum vehicle load
The service plan you have is good value, but be aware that what you‘ll be getting is basically an oil and filter change, plus inspection. Any other work falls outside of the standard service and would be a separate chargeable item (e.g. first brake fluid change is due when car is two years old but not included in the standard service).
