Engine compression test & Cylinder leak down test done and its not good news I’m afraid.
Results:
Compression test:
Cyl1 – 145psi
Cyl2 – 135psi
Cyl3 – 152psi
Cyl4 – 155psi
Cylinder leak down test:
Cyl1 – 35%
Cyl2 – 40%
Cyl3 – 25%
Cyl4 – 20%
The engine is very tired, so does support the emissions failure you saw.
A healthy BAM engine would have 190-200psi compression and less than 10% cylinder leakage.

Given our discussion this morning, new turbo, downpipe, cat, 4 x tyres etc etc, with the engine itself being worn out, you will need to judge what amount you are prepared to spend on it to make it “good again”. A forged 1.9 engine build with oversize pistons, cylinder head with new valves, guides, springs is from £8367, not including removal or fitting of engine & moving/cleaning all ancillary parts est £2500, plus the downpipe, cat, tyres, turbo etc

We all love an LCR mk1, as do you by the sounds of it!Ouch!! I’ll stop complaining about tax!! That’s some serious money but you’d be in good hands with Badger5.
I’d question whether you want an engine with that power capability. I find my LCR a handful with 283bhp unless the roads are in top condition. My mk3 Octavia, although less powerful at 245bhp is so much easier to drive in every respect. Brakes better, handles better, puts power down better.
You’ve really got to love your mk1 to spend £10k+ on engine stuff.
Why am I not surprised that you have sparesYeah I have them on my watch list.
Not to buy, just interested to see if they sell for that.
I’d buy them if I didn’t have the set for my car already.
But I’m all for originality, some people won’t be bothered.
I remember when I got my Cupra Diesel new in 2004, looking at the Cupra R in the showroom then, laughing at those mats saying they were a bit ‘tacky’Why am I not surprised that you have spares, thinking ahead is great. I had a set when I first got my motor never knew they were rare as it was 14 years ago but the drivers had a bigger hole than the uks economy sadly, so went in bin. Yeah I agree many won't be bothered I mean 200 plus notes for used mats is excessive but people pay for oem I thought the lad with 23k mileage may be keen seems like he's keeping his oem.
