SOUND UPGRADE SENNHEISSER – CUPRA
For those interested: recently I’ve been working on a fun upgrade project for the Sennheiser system, in combination with the original speakers.
WHY?
In my previous Cupra Leon, I installed a Match UP6 DSP and subwoofer, professionally tuned with a microphone and calibrated by a specialist. That system sounded noticeably better than the current Sennheiser system.
What I currently miss:
Problem:
The power from the standard Panasonic amplifier (estimated ±50W) was still too limited → not enough output
2nd Improvement – Additional Amplifier (Helix)
Result: Another significant step forward in output and power
Problem:
No standard wiring harnesses are available yet for this setup
MATCH UP10 DSP (Expansion)
Effectively, this becomes a UP10.10 (same device, but normally with the module built in)
Channel Layout
Under the seat just fits, and with the cover installed it still looks neat
CONFIGURATION AND TUNING
System works properly, with clearly more available power
Still to do:
Note: this comes at a cost
If you’re considering doing this yourself and would like the file (for a hatchback or station with Sennheiser system), feel free to contact me

- Deep, powerful bass
- Balance at higher volumes (it quickly becomes harsh)
- Installed: new enclosure with Option 8-Air D2 subwoofer (210W RMS)
- The standard L-shaped subwoofer was simply not powerful enough
- This new enclosure is custom-made for the Cupra Leon Station and fits perfectly on the left side of the trunk
- Plug & play using the original wiring
Problem:
The power from the standard Panasonic amplifier (estimated ±50W) was still too limited → not enough output
2nd Improvement – Additional Amplifier (Helix)
- Installed: Helix One Amplify 201 with crossover
Result: Another significant step forward in output and power
Problem:
- Limited tuning options
- Subwoofer only really came alive at higher volume
- No DSP → no advanced tuning possibilities
- Installed: Match UP10 DSP (8 inputs / 10 outputs)
No standard wiring harnesses are available yet for this setup
MATCH UP10 DSP (Expansion)
- The original Panasonic amplifier uses 12 channels
- Based on advice, I chose the Match UP10, but it only has 8 input channels as standard
- Therefore expanded with a MEC Analog Input module (+2 inputs)
Channel Layout
- Front: 3-way system (High / Mid / Low) → 6 channels
- Rear: 2-way (left/right bridged) → 2 channels
- Center speaker → 1 channel
- Subwoofer (via RCA out) → 1 channel
- Since the Helix was already installed and provides more power:
- Controlled via RCA output from the Match DSP
- Remote signal from DSP (on/off)
- Power and ground from the rear battery
- Subwoofer connected via speaker cable
- Ready-made solutions: not available or > €500
- So I went DIY: ordered a 38-pin Match extension cable and modified/soldered it myself
- 4-pin cable to the center speaker (not amplified as standard)
- Conductor Pro installed near the phone charger, cable routed to the front via door seals
- Power: from rear battery, ground to front grounding point
- Mounted under the front seat; space is very limited
- Cables are stiff → difficult to route cleanly
Under the seat just fits, and with the cover installed it still looks neat
CONFIGURATION AND TUNING
- Initial setup done via Audiotec Fischer software (channels and outputs configured)
System works properly, with clearly more available power
Still to do:
- Professional tuning (next week)
- Optimization of EQ, time alignment, and crossovers

COSTS (Approximate)
- 1st upgrade: Subwoofer enclosure + woofer + wiring: €350
- 2nd upgrade: Helix amplifier + wiring: €250
- 3rd upgrade: €1450
- Match UP10 DSP: €1050
- Match wiring harness: €100
- Match Conductor Pro: €150
- Match Analog Input MEC: €100
- Fuse holder, RCA cables, misc: €50
