Hi all,

I’m trying to update the firmware in my Leon.

Currently:
MST2_EU_SE_ZR_P0472T
Trying to go to 0479T.
I’m using a 31GB USB stick, FAT32 with 16kb (smallest) allocation.

I’ve tried both extracting directly to the root of the drive, and extracting to my C drive then copying. The car just says “reading USB 1” forever. I’ve removed the nav sd card.

The furthest I’ve gotten was after about 20mins of reading, “USB1: Firmware update available” or something.

But the device selection for the update (USB, SD, CD) is greyed out completely no matter how long I wait.

Any ideas?

Why 0479? 0480 is the latest release for your infotainment unit

Assuming you're preparing the USB correctly & opening the update menu correctly, try doing the same thing with an SD card
Thanks. mib-helper said 0479 was the latest official, and I know the numbers aren’t always in order of release date. Will go for 0480.

I’ll find an SD card and borrow a reader. Does it have to be an official one assuming the unit is still cid locked, or does that only affect nav updates?

CID only matters for navigation

Its a good idea to also pull out the other card if there is one in slot 2. Slot 1 is the one to use. I know before someone hadn't pulled out the other card from the slot. You naturally assume that someone would do it by the book and just present the card only.

As for mib helper it's only as good as the people that keep on top of it.

Did I mention dont use a Mac unless you use CleanMyDrive on the SD card before putting it in (there are alternatives). There is a signature oonn legitimate firmware and if it's seen a Mac and it's blessed with the hidden characters and they have haven't been removed, it's not going to happen due to the signature not tallying with the contents that now have the pesky characters added. It won't tell you why. Same for mib3 and mib2 high map updates.

Both slots work perfectly fine for software updates

Good point RE the issues caused by Macs, often forgotten about

Mib 2 Support only SD Card Firmware Update
Curious, I've updated my mib2 yesterday with a usb pendrive
I've had one problem when it got stuck at the end and I had to restart it, then it finished and works normally. But it's probably because I didn't prepare AIO pack properly and it was missing gracenotes or something, so it's not usbs fault?

That's mib2 high. Whatever was said may only be for the standard unit. Yes the AIO one does stop at the end from reports and you need the reboot. Gracenotes you do apply separately that's been mentioned a particular version. Don't think it's the most recent one of that which you use. There is a thread on the AIO.

Sorry for hijacking the thread...
Yep I've read about gracenotes when it was too late already. If I finished updating without them can I just leave it as it is? Or is it better to add them separately? If I now add them to my usb stick to appropriate folder will it update just this one or do I need to make whole update from scratch?
I was going from MHI2_ER_SEG11_S2105 MU:0319 and according to mib-helper most recent was MHI2_ER_SEG11_P4709 MU:1447 and thats what I found on the software site, I chose AIO one. Is there a newer one somewhere?

Last question no that will be the most recent. Due to the way it's written it terminates how it does. 1447 was the last release of the mib2 high firmware. That was taken by the hobbyists that did the AIO bit (all in one) which gives you unlimited navigation FeCs, the performance screens and offroad tilt etc. Mine is a 4drive so I had the offroad but not performance. There was a thing a while back about getting the extra screens. People liked them. I never look at them. So I can look at my diesel revs if I want...

For navigation if you use the latest 450 maps you'll need the Skoda navigation fec.

Read that post. You use the incredible bash link, mr bonk linked and the post later by I just want a car. Slight dark art of getting it in the green menu. You backup and edit in the FeC to the end of the Seat list. Then you rename the backup and add the fec or something similar. People got stuck and it seemed it was the backup. I cross posted to the Briskoda site where some had a Seat and was having issues in getting it to work. Seemed they needed to get the firmware name correct whilst this one it was due to the back up already existing. The version I used four years ago you didn't backup a second time you just did addFeCs. Hence the dark art. You have to problem solve that yourself. Two pointers. Anyhow that's how you get 450 working.

Thanks for the guidance, I've added gracenotes and gone through the update again, this time it took only like 10 minutes since most was updated last time I guess. Everything works and there were no error so I'm gonna leave it at that. Maybe I'll do the navigation later but I don't really need it since I'm using android auto anyway. For now I need to check if two bugs I had on old software will still pop up (bluetooth music stutter and oil temp lag), that's the main reason I did the update to begin with.
