Another "feature" that wasn't thought thoroughly and reason to stay away from current crop of cars, for me at least. 😔

They're not your settings anymore... 😈
Yes. But surely it's not beyond the wit of their Techy Boffins (correct technical term) to create a system where my settings are both uploaded to them, for whatever nefarious purposes they may have, AND stored locally on my car, to avoid the owner (me) having to rely on their bl**oody satellite or server not crashing?

...or are their intentions even more nefarious than just standard nefarious?

They're either naughty or incompetent.

There was a complete system outage yesterday for all VWG brands.

The three icons mean:

Qi-off - there's nothing on you're wireless charger

Man with a position marker - your privacy setting is on minimum and your location is being shared

White globe - the vehicle has a data connection
Thinking a bit more about it... This is really poor from VWG and their dealers. They had a 'complete system outage' and they couldn't be bothered to email or text the owners of cars that are affected. They have my details - I also have the Cupra Connect app, yet I only find out about this 'outage' problem after I post on this forum.
Very poor indeed from VWG & Co. A little message to me could have prevented a lot of searching for the non-existent solution on my part.

If it makes you feel any better, the brand(s) didn't communicate a thing to the dealer network either. I only knew about it because someone at work with a Formentor said his account wasn't working, so I checked the message board on the connect portal and it showed the biggest outage post I've ever seen.

This is the first total network outage I've seen since the heavy introduction of the connected systems in 2020.

Thanks James. I won't tar the dealers with my VWG brush any more, as apparently it's VWG whose lack of communication let the owners down. It wasn't only Formentors that were affected, was it?

I wonder if anyone at VW realises that if individual car user settings weren't dependent on an active/functioning network, owners wouldn't have been inconvenienced as they were. Even my mp3/usb music settings were set back to track 1 of about 900! ...and I'd been really enjoying Top Gear Driving Anthems lol. Sweet Home Alabama, etc. Luckily (?) as soon as the White Globe returned, all my settings were restored.

Interestingly, it didn't affect my 'Individual' car driving setup at all, so that particular personal element isn't dependent on me being connected to The VW Gods in their dodgy cloud.
