1.5tsi engine failures

This did not make my day ive got a 1.5tsi 150 EVO. I thought the only big failure to expect was the DSG gearbox. The video clip points to plasma protected aluminium bores as another major failure point.

I've heard of this issue before but not on the 1.5tsi, it was on larger VW engines. To be honest, I think it's outrageous. This is cost cutting gone insane and VW clearly do not care about long term durability at all. I had already accepted that 100k miles is a realistic limit for a modern car but it seems that even that might be optimistic. My Leon has just ticked over 100k and it'll be going soon.

This is terrible and just proves how far manufacturers have fallen. They must know perfectly well that this thin coating is not going to last but they obviously don't care. They are aiming to build cars that will outlast the warranty and that's it. As long as the money it costs them in repairs is less than the money they saved by not fitting proper cylinder liners they're happy.

And who's footing the bill? The owners of older cars. The very people who can least afford it but VW don't care. As long as they still sell new cars they don't care.

Hopefully their reputation will suffer and people will stop buying them. It's the only message they will understand.

@Mr Pig 100%, that is the only "language" they speak. I look at the videos of the HumbleMechanic every now and then, he also mentioned the support for older VW cars is non-existent, which is a damn shame. It's only about new cars

Ultimately it's the fault of buyers. They know Range Rovers are junk but don't care if buying new as it'll be under warranty the whole time they have it. The manufacturer doesn't care what happens after that as the new sale is all that effects them. Years ago more people kept cars for longer so durability mattered.

It's the people who can't afford new cars I feel for. I can see a time coming when people on lower incomes will not be able to run a car.
