All the Ibiza petrol engines are designed to run on 95 RON, 91 is mimimum but will give you power loss according to engine specs. It's debateable whether anything higher than 95 will make any difference if the ECU isn't mapped for it. Tho some of the higher octane fuels also contain less impuraties so the engine will run better.

i stopped using the 99 ron stuff after it helped along the dying coilpack to die even more and also because of the running cost involved. When i was using it, was great. Better pickup and smoother running (when the dying coilpack wasnt misfiring at me)

Ah, that's cruel! These coils kill themselves irrespective of fuel used. Redex, that "used" to be good when it was "super strong hi-conc" stuff, I reckon that the newer wishy-washy stuff is incapable of doing any harm - and probably of doing any good
in my humble experience - but I'd like to add it once or twice a year just to "clean thing up"! The original Redex brew also seemed to improve MPG while it was in the tank at "strong cleaning" concentrations - as an extra bonus!
I tend to use Shell unleaded most of the time as I took samples from all local garages within a 5 mile radius and had the fuels analysed in a lab (Girlfriend doing this as part of Uni course at the time)... the Shell came out tops, only if I'm desperate do I use that limp wristed fairy liquid that Tesco call unleaded. Have never tried the "Super Juice" yet, might do next month though.
Currently get 400 + to a tank out of the normal stuff, so I'll see what the difference is between them.

lets face it guys your 1.4 is never goin to be a racing car just use the thing for what it is!
if it was me id run it on chip fat ect if it would run on it... fill up when you need to using the cheapest closest fuel you can find job done! when you think of all the grannys and grandans with the same car as you, do that do you think they get any problems?

I would never use Tesco fuel, its rubbish, and over a long time of use can effect your car. You certainly get worse MPG.

Cheap supermarket stuff does not have the same aditives in the fuel as the top brands (shell/Bp) so your car wont run as well, will be less nippy and worse on fuel with cheaper brands.
A lot of modern diesels, once they get higher mileage have trouble with injectors if being run on supermarket fuel, due to the lack of lubrication in cheap fuels. Run them on top brands and there is a big difference, there is research out there to back this up.
Thats my opinion, my local shell garage is the same price as local Teso, Asda and Morrisons, so i have to drive a little further to get it, but its worth it!

I get the feeling it is the catalyst that doesn't like this stuff. I used some octane booster in my fuel to try and boost 99 to over 100RON and I had some strange after effects.
good point but knowing they will outsource it at cheaper prices i'm sure the likes of BP/Shell etc are going to supply them the best quality stuff they have of course
For a 1.2 I would just stick to bog-standard 95ron unleaded TBH. Supermarkets are only a couple of pence cheaper than the big brands so I would stick with BP, Shell etc. if you want the best quality stuff.
Just a quick note on octane boosters like Redex - If you read the back it claims to raise the octane by up to 5 points (varies depending on brand) - You think "wowzers!" my 95RON will be 100octane with this stuff... wrong they mean "points" ie you'll be running 95.5RON

Obviously fuel comes from the same place, HOWEVER it is the additives which is put into the fuel after it is made that makes it cheap supermarket rubbish or top brand Shell/BP.
Supermakret fuel does not have the same additives in that shell etc does, it lacks lubrication factors, doesnt burn as well etc etc.
To think fuel is fuel is very short sited, do a bit of searching around on scentific sites (i.e not opinionated sites) and you will see what i mean.
Just think of it like this: Years ago there were fuel ratings, fuel stations supplied: 1 star fuel, 2 star, 3 star etc, some cars would not run on the basic 1 star fuel, as it did not have the right additives in, however some more basic engines would. So you had to pay more to get the better grade.
Treat Tesco/supermarket rubbish as the 2 star fuel from years ago, and the Shell/BP as the top 4 star. See where im coming from now?
There has been numerous reports about supermarket fuel and top brand, most say their car doesnt run as well on the cheaper stuff and they get less MPG.
I would never use supermarket fuel, is it really worth it to save a few pence??? Shell is exatcly the same cost as Tesco etc round here, so i dont lose out anyway.
