I dont believe this to be true. I totally disagree that all young male drivers drive like idiots and are heavy-footed. Granted there are a lot that do but the OP, i believe, posted a valid question which should not have the age stuff come into it.

Most of my mates drive 'sensibly' and get good MPG, only the few of us that are into cars drive them properly.

Im 18 btw, so I think I have a fair point of view, I drove my Mk3 fairly hard because of the lovely noise it made, so therefore got rubbish MPG (although always more than 25mpg!), yet my mates with clios, fiestas, etc drive normally and receive good MPG figures because of it!

I have never got less than 300 to a tank apart from when my temp sensor had gone and was over fueling constantly. I even managed about 400 on a long run to and from Santa pod. And yes, I do have a lead foot personally.
