EASY one this, even when the display is off the heat setting remains at what you set it, so if you leave it on hot then hot air will naturally flow through the system albeit slower.

If you set the temp low before you turn the climate off no hot air will come through and just cool air will naturally pass thorugh. My other half has a chill and this baffled her for months

Cheers Artemis, I'll try 5w40 fully synthetic and see how it responds.

DO NOT put fully synth in its too thin for it! Bear in mind this engine first saw action in 1994 its not designed for that thinner oil. Semi synth is just right.

I wouldnt worry about the engine providing it has been well maintained it will be fine, the 1.4 8v is a tough sod! Its the gearboxes you have to watch out for.............. but thats the same with any VAG box.

OK on the gearboxes Cupra Kid thanks for the heads up, surely 5w40 whether synth or semi synth has the same viscosity, just thinner at warm up when the hydro tappets need pumping up? Just a, thought.... shouldnt be a problem with oil seals even on a motor designed that early, but if the Forum experts feel that way maybe semi synth 5w40 would be better any thoughts anyone?

mate, post it in your own thread next time otherwise its a bit off topic.

But mine does the same thing, im not an expert on heating by any means, i would imagine its just crap "valves" that stop the airflow when the fan is turned off, so any airflow through the heater matrix will just come straight through the vents. and it'll prob be worse the faster/harder you drive. nothing to worry about really.
