Does anyone know what's involved in the first service and generally how long it takes?
Wonder what there gonna say about my hids!

Also, looking into getting a fr tomorrow! Really want a boc but don't think my pockets will stretch that far! Woop!

They can't really say anything about your HID's, it's your car mate they have no say in what you do to it :) Should be around £120ish and should only take a few hours

i got quoted £147 incl. vat and would take about an hour and a half to do. Got mine next tuesday, bloody service thing keeps popping up on my dash now and going 'ping!' everytime.

you had enough of the 1.4 sport then?

Yeah I've had enough even though I do still really enjoy the car.
I know a few people on here say it's a sluggish/slow car but I think it's fine for everyday use! I just want more power haha
But, after reading the mpg figures from the 1.6 tdi users on here I'm very tempted, I'd only have to fill up once a month!
Ohh mines been beeping for the last week, doing my head in! Mines in tomorrow at 10am!
I've been paying monthly for my service so won't need to pay anything tomorrow other than parts if needed!

Fair enough :)

Filling up once a month is pretty good. Don't think i've read what mpg they're getting. Happy with the 1.4 right now, can't stretch any further anyway really.

The payment scheme goes on for 3 years unless I swap/sell the car so all 3 services are paid for monthly over the three years!

Hmm my finance is over 3 years, then at the end i can either get a new car or pay the bucket amount. Wonder why i havent been paying for the service like that. Unless i didn't choose it, can't remember.

Have to say, considering I have the antiquated 1.4 16v engine (according to some people on here) it's easily a better(more economical especially) than the Clio 1.2 16v it replaced. Ok, it's not a TSi engine, or a diesel, but, like Char, I find it quite acceptable.

Mine won't be serviced by a dealer. I have an independant garage I trust.

Only thing that puts me of the 1.6 engine is it seems you need to be doing long journeys to get the really high mpg, I only work 4 miles away from home and the furthest I probably drive is 20 miles or so to Manchester and that isn't every week! Don't think I'd benefit what the engine can actually do!

I love my 1.4, it's fine for what I need it for!
I really want the tsi fr, I'm really interested in the engine and gear box!
I'd even settle for the 1.2 tsi if revo do a remap for it :)

if you're taking it "normally" and it's fairly flat then that 4mile journey will probably be around 45mpg, i can get around that pootling round sheffield with all its hills. admittedly not the 60/70 you'd get on a motorway run but don't know how that compares to your 1.4

What about the filter that gets the emissions down? If you don't put the miles in at higher speeds, you'll be replacing it every 5000 miles, and the costs involved.
My 1.4 16v averages 43+ at the moment, mixed driving, and 48+ on the motorway @75(ish)

ha, tbf, it's only recently that my average over a tank has risen from around 36/37 to low 40's.
If you're not regularly doing long journeys get the fr tsi and remap it. as mardon (iirc?) showed you can get decent economy if you're sensible and you'll not have the dpf issues you will town driving the 1.6tdi all the time.

you'll not be replacing the filter (i've done 18k so far), but you'll be having to proper regen runs at least once a month.

If I filled my 1.6 TDI once a month I could travel just over 400 miles. Is that what you expect?

According to David Bodily Volkswagen Technical Support Specialist the 1.6 TDI engines with DPF filter are

Not recommended for sale in the Channel Islands and inner city driving

Some people report good mpg. We cover over 1,200 miles a month and it returns the worst mpg of any diesel car we've ever owned. It can be fast and sporty if that's what you want but that would get you even worse mpg.

If you are travelling only 400 miles a month you should seriously discuss the type of journeys you intend to make to see if it's suitable (Don't rely only on the advice of a salesman).

What rji says is correct, I wouldn't buy a diesel if its doing such low mileage.

My 1.4 16v averages 43+ at the moment, mixed driving, and 48+ on the motorway @75(ish)

But yours is the EU5 model isn't it? By that I mean the slightly revised 1.4 with 139g/ km co2 emissions rather than the original 149g/ km co2 emissions model. Mine (the latter) will do mid 30s town and mid 40s motorway if driven sensibly.

is that from bristol street? was thinking about taking it out cos i think it works out cheaper than where i normally go, plus paying something small, monthly is better than a big whack in one go!

Cheers rji, I was expecting a little bit more than that tbh.
Looks like the tsi fr is the one for me.
The whole mpg thing doesn't really worry me as my journeys are generally short!
Gonna have a word with the dealer tomorrow and see if we can get something together.
Question is, candy White, track grey or yellow?!?!?! Or splash out for speed blue!
