Hi all, had my new MK3 for a couple of weeks now (pictures to follow once detailed) but am having a rather odd issue.

First off the oil temperature reading on the driving data screen always shows --- so will be calling dealer on Tuesday to get that checked!

Second off, the coolant temperature reading on driving data/the actual dial will be fine and then suddenly drop to nothing (or --- on the driving data screen). Then when you pull up at a junction the stop-start fails to kick in (ERROR with stop-start warning comes up) and the engine sounds very loud (think it may be the cooling fan?). The engine still feels as if it is running fine, however. All fluids are correct and not leaking.

This has now happened on a couple of journeys over the past couple of weeks, only seems to happen on long runs. At the end of the journey I park the car and everything is fine when I start it next time - seems to be an intermittent problem. Sounds like it could be a dodgy coolant sensor (and possibly oil)?

Anyone else had this problem or any suggestions? Either way the dealer are getting a call, but be handy to be informed before I see them :)

It's the 1.8 TSI engine.

Wow, that does sound dodgy. I would agree with the your assumptions but the information you have posted here should be enough for the dealers to get it sorted for you....

have a FR 180 TSI but have not noticed this problem but will keep an eye on it now as never really look at it that much, but i would definatley take it to you dealer to get it looked at and sorted.dont know why they give you oil temp water temp in driving data just something else to worry about and can think of better things they could have done on car

Sounds like your engine is overheating. Stop-start is probably disabled in order to keep the water pump running. Get it booked into the dealer ASAP before the engine is damaged.

I would have hoped if that was the case then the engine would have gone into limp mode. To be fair the engine/bonnet didn't feel overly hot when I finished the journey.

Either way it is booked in for Thursday so hopefully it gets sorted quickly :) will post an update when I have anything.

Could be a loose temp sensor, if the ECU doesn't get a reading from the sensor it may stick on all the cooling fans just to be safe?
