Hello,

I had opportunity to drive Leon MK2 with both engines 1.9 TDI (PD with 105hp) and 1.6 TDI (CR with 105hp). Although both engines have totally different specification on the paper, from fuel injection to fuel consumption, while I was driving didn't notice any special difference exept that 1.9 TDI is quite noisier.

Which engine is better choice in your opinion if we consider endurance, known failures and maintenance costs of engines with 100k miles and much more?

The 1.6 has a dpf so make sure this isn't a problem for you. The BXE version of the 1.9 had some pretty massive and terminal issues, worth a Google anyway. These were the last of the 1.9s so earlier ones might be OK.

It seems to be one to avoid too....

I haven't seen anywhere in this article that BLS engine is mentioned?!

Isn't this the one with proud heads and oil pump failure

As I've seen this problem with oil pump failure is present on all 1.9 TDI engines.

Which 1.9TDI (engine code) is the best from that period 2006-2008 and is it with or without DPF?

It does mention it briefly I think, but the point was to show some wins insight into what the issues where overall with the 1.9tdi.

I think they only did BKC, BLS and BXE in the leon. Any of them could be fine or fail, much will depend on how they were used. I think the problem is most commonly associated with the BXE though. Find the one that is best looked after, get a decent aftermarket warranty and keep on top of oil changes. None had DPFs as far as I know

I found some Leon 1.6 TDI 105BHP (2011) in pretty good shape with 60.000 miles (full SEAT service history). As we said it has DPF and much more expensive and sensive injectors. I will drive most of time in traffic jams so I affraid that DPF will block very soon in these conditions. Is this mileage enough high mileage to expect such things?
