Hope someone can shed some light on this for me as to whats caused it. When going out to the car sometimes the traction control (esp) light is on and the car fails to turn over. The car is my brothers and he has been experiencing it sometimes when its cold but happens alot on a warm start. Takes ages to get the car started and when the key is in the ignition before the engine is started (when the VAGCOM scan was done) the fans were kicking in straight away for some reason

A used VAGCOM to see what would come up and quite a few faults showed up but dont know what the exact cause is. Here are the main bits from the scan and we have checked rosstechs website to try and shed some light but has anyone experienced this:

As you can see from the scan the 01314 is showing up alot, does this mean something is up with the ECU?

Either ECU relay or broken main feed to that relay which lives in the engine bay fuse holder.

Swap the relay or take the battery box out and check for broken wires under or around it.

The fault indicates no voltage at the ecu with the ignition on.

Thanks, will get my brother to check this out tomorrow. Its been going on for sometime now as he had a subwoofer and power cap fitted which I personally think caused it all. Someone has suggested via PM that it could need a stronger earthing cable/point from the battery.

Just had a reply from Midland VW saying that its most likely the ECU on its way out and that would require a new/used one. Thats going to be the last resort

That's an expensive stab in the dark! :wtf:

It'd make much more sense to condemn and try a £15 relay instead of a £500+ ecu, which myself or my colleagues have never come across but chaffed wires and dead relays we have.

Ive seen those faults with a fried ecu, but would need more diagnosis to confirm, wouldnt just stab in the dark and replace t anyway! MJ is on the right track im sure.
