yeah you need 7.5 width with the 18s, i had no bother getting these, if you go for 8s youll loose full lock and suffer from a lot of rubbing in the corners

i have leon cupra r 18's on mine and lowered it 40 mm. i had to take all the inner arches out and it still rubs when hittin bumps/ extremely tight corners. will post pics later

195/55 15" has 2% difference on radius versus 215/35 18"(radius is about 0.3 inches bigger). My speedometer was about 2-3% off at 100km/h, now it's only 1% off with 215/40 17"s.

I dont have a beezer, but changing from 14" steely's to 17" alloys didn't affect the speedo on me pug as it matches 100% with what the GPS is telling me. May be just lucky though. One thing I did notice was that it "felt" ie not on the speedo, that it accelerated slower on 17's. But one thing is for sure, and that is the top speed is lower with bigger wheels I know it shouldnt be but it is! (maybe coz rubber is 1/3 wider?? therefore more drag??) proved by going back to smaller wheels for a week and top end going higher :)

That's because with larger wheels, the majority of the wheel weight is further from the centre, and is therefore the wheel is harder to turn.

Also you generally have more metal to move around so the unsprung mass is greater and hence blunts the accelleration a bit.

sorry meant to post pics but just had my exhaust done and dont have any mesh on my back bumper (had bodykit done too) got my mesh this morning so will post pics when its on :)

Buy lighter wheels, OZ super/ultraleggera, TeamDynamics ProRace series, etc., then you won't have slowing issues 'cause of added weight. My 17" TD prorace 2's weight about the as my stock tdi sport's 15" (both with tire).

driveshafts will also be under alot of stress too by enlarging the wheel circumfrance. if you enlarge the wheels car would need to be lowered imo as it will make gap between arch and tyre greater. go for sum flashy 16" would look good

i dont see the point in changing alloys for the sake of an inch or no increase in size as rashcupra suggested, the ones on the sport aint that bad.... and the ones off the r32 golf will be too wide

make sure the width of the wheel is less than 8. As i had rs4 genuine wheels on mines and tyres where catching front wings.
Either that u put a very low profile tyre on it.
I had 224/40/18.

So i'd go for 7.5 width on an 18 wheel which could be hard to find

aye they are 8's but look there

Depends what offset the 8s are

I've got 17 x 8 et 35, 205/40/17 tyres which give a slight streched look, no rubbing at all on std suspension. i think you'd get away with 215/40s tho

the rs4's are prob a lower offset

thinking more and more about it might just go for 17's when the tyres run out on the standard rims (got a lifetime done about 1010 miles :( )

and thinking about either :
