I've seen a mk1 golf convertible VR6 so there's no worries about getting the engine in an ibiza.

md078, were not disputing the engine will fit, its keeping it running thats the issue, ie heat and uprated components to keep it on the road.

It will fit yep but as cordobabrendy says its the running thats the problem. My brother had a mk2 golf with VR6 conversion in it. The conversion was a top notch job but problems would crop up all the time, varying from engine, brake or suspension related. Personally id be keeping the vento with the engine in it and make it a bit of sleeper

Lads, this wont be a daily drive car, just 1/4 mile and show... and if I can find a lookhole in the insurance somehow, then drive it every now and then..

I'd be happy if it started, got through a Dyno run, and a few runs up the 1/4 mile with good times.

I'd be happy/

plus most VR6's need rebuilding by now, so add that in.

I like you effort for adding bhp, if NOS is the be all - I wouldn't bother with the rest. just add a 500shot to the 1.4?

NOS & turbos and VR6 doesn't get talked about often.... that's for a very good reason.

1: engine is just rebuilt:
Recent complete top end rebuild, all timing chains, guide rails and tensioners renewed. All gaskets and seals are new. New water pump. Rolling road printout from Westward Engineering for 180bhp (standard is 174)

2: I think your right about the turbo and nitrous... maybe supercharger.. there belt driven and dont rely on exhaust gasses.. no no turbo lag. Jackson supercharger anyone?

as for 500shot to 1.4, why not feckit and go 600!! ;)

And as cordobabrendy mention, expensive ornament.. yeah Its gonna be very depressing seeing it sat on the driveway while I still end up driving what was a VR6 vento, a 1.4 ibiza engined vento :( ah well, the thought of it being there, and when I do get to drive it on that rare occasion will be booody brilliant:D

I sent him a message earlier and he said it's failrly touch and go like, read his posts about it, said it was done in 4 eveneings which to me is mad... but as he started off with the 2.0 GTi engine in his, im guessing he most probably used his standard 2.0 rad....

Mornin :D

If you have all the bits and are confident with the wiring its all good.
Loving the comments about understeer - war has been waged on the same discussion as mk2 golf vr6's - same answer - go out and drive it. VR isnt much heavier at the front - decent bit of effort in geometry will have more of an effect.

If your really worried about it the use all the widetrack stuff from the mk3 like we did. She handles a gem.
Anyone who wants to argue can try and keep up through the twisties and see for yourself. :)

We used a big rad and modified vr6 fan cowling. just mod the front panel for it to fit. Never seen over 90 on the the water temp and oil stays nice and cool. use as big a rad as you possibly can on the vr.
Reliabilty - why should it be any different to the donor car? If your competent then you'll have no probs. along the way you'll tidy up and repair any cable damage so theres no reason youshould have any probs with it. VR's goi on for ever - just replace the cam chains if theres no history of it being done.

Good luck - its well worth the effort.

Out of interest and may be a dumb question, but everyone who talks about this upgrade is after the 2.8 lump from the golf - why not the 2.9 from the Corrado?

It's an absolutely amazing engine - my mates Corrado VR6 is sooo much fun to drive.

I was under the impression that the Corrado had a MK3 golf front-end so isn't that very similar to the Ibiza?

Probaby cause the corrado VR6 is a rare'r engine, and finding a corrado for breaking is as rare than hens teeth.

Plus, they are ALOT more expensive...

How are you going with this. I`m in Sydney, Australia and have been doing this conversion. Its in and driving, but need to get the aftermarket computer set up properly. Makes an awesome noise though.

Back from the dead
if your going to go thru all that hastle put the VR engine in the back and do a rear wheel drive version!! (only kidding).

Heard mixed reports of VR transplants. It didn't work in Dubsports Lupo, but seems to work well enough in Mk2 Golfs.

If you want a supercharged VR try these folk: Storm Developments

Speak to as many people as you can before you go ahead - theres no substitute for other peoples experiences.

Best of luck!

Just an update to say the VR6 conversion is on hold due to current funding issues.. Alhough should be ready sometime in Early next year stages..

In the meantime, I'll enjoy a new addition to the motor family... a new soon to be aquired '87 RWD Toyota Corolla GT Coupe.. Will have some fun with that and sell it on / make profit to fund aul' VR6 :)

2006 gonna be a good year I think..

Btw, happy christmas everyone on SeatCupra - ya been a great help in me short space of member'ness so far. Remember, don't get to lashed and don't drink and drive :)

Thats the car, but I`m the new owner, not the seller. He was leaving the country, so I got it for a bargain.

He paid $3500 for the frontcut including part ex on his 2L GTI lump and gearbox!

Sounds like loads of grief and money so far, mostly with the wiring and it now needs the computer setting up, has to pass an emissions test and get an engineers report, then it will be road legal. Hopefully by February.

I think it was worth it, car looks and sounds awesome and when setup andfinished will be a great sleeper. People in Oz have not heard of Seats or VR6s, so should upset some boy racers.

Yeah mate, do it. You need VR6 subframes, they make the motor sit lower. I used the VR6 box and shafts and VR6 front Hubs and Brakes. Had to use a spacer to clear the brakes with my wheels, but others may be ok. It wasn`t that hard, just get all the Golf bits and I`d get the whole front Loom from the Golf, including Fusebox and just hook up my Ibiza rear lights to that if I was doing it again. I went aftermarket computer and it was loads of grief. Dont believe the fools that say it doesn`t handle, mine is real stable and turns in nice. Weighs nearly as much as a VR6 Golf though, but spins people out at the traffic lights! Let me know how you get on and if you need any help. Cheers Matt
