Thanks for the assistance guys. It would seem my car is a bit ‘special’
I have a copy of VCDS, I just haven’t installed it yet. I’ll see what the guys at Votex say on Monday when it’s in for a service.

If they come back with nothing I’ll get the car hooked up and see what version cluster I have.

So the car went in for a service yesterday. The guys at Votex looked into the service display being missing. The outcome was that it was turned off I guess that VCDS was used to do this. Why anyone would have this turned off is beyond me!

At least its sorted and the car is now up to date with its servicing.

Probably done inadvertently by someone messing around with VCDS who had no clue what they were doing with the software. That's one of the potential dangers with VCDS getting into the wrong hands. When you buy a car you have no idea what settings a previous owner might have been playing around with or screwed up completely.
