I have been looking into the compression ratio of the 20VT engine.
The book says that the 20VT has a ratio of 9.5 to 1 where as the 20V N/A engine with 124ps has a ratio of 10.3 to 1.

I was expecting the turbo engine to have a much lower compression ratio, can anyone explain why the ratio is so high ?

Maybe this is why the 20VT is quite torquey ?

It is quite high for a turbo engine and is the reason the engine can produce so much power (when tuned) from just 1.8 litres and has a lot of torque. The 240bhp version is 9.1 to 1 but some of the new 2 litre TFSI engines are 10 or 10.5 to 1 I think

Makes you wonder how the turbo manages to puff it's way into the cylinders

Then again these little turbos do blow quite well don't they.
