Ive searched and know the differences between the 210-225 ive been thinking about getting a 210 as people say they are the same in terms of power/remappabillity! What i need to know is the resale value of 210 compared to a 225? also what if im buying parts i.e.dumpvaves suspension etc... will the 225 stuff fit the 210?

I doubt resale would be an issue, i went to a garage when i was looking at Leon's and sat in an R, the salesman didnt even know there where 210 variants!!

The basic engine block and ancillaries are the same, so yes, aftermarket parts should be like-for-like between the 210 and the 225. Some of the internals of the 225 are supposedly weaker, but I forget which actual parts these are.

Apart from that, the differences between the 210 and the 225 are minimal (red "R" badges on the 225, BAMxxxxx engine code for the 225, and minor interior changes etc etc).

Many people don't realise there are two versions. And those who do will be smart enough to realise quite how insignificant the differences are as they will have done their homework first. So I really wouldn't worry about it.

As for parts, all parts fit both engines :)

i wonder why seat did a 210? if its all the same why bring out two cars near identical? seems daft! Why does a 1.8 20vt engine kick out 225 and one kicks 210bhp? if the components are the same seems odd? it must be the remapping!

The weren't out at the same time - 225 followed 210. From that point of view a 225bhp car might be worth slightly more simply because it will be newer.

I suspect it was 210 to start with because the Audi S3 was always 210, and they probably didn't want the cheeky Seat arm of the company sneaking a few more ponies in on them. When the TT was released with the 225bhp version, it gave them the green light.

Of course us 225 owners also have that certain glow of smugness thanks to our extra 15 horses ;)

Totally right Reg. The 225bhp 1.8T was used as a show case for the TT and then realeased for use by Seat. I notice that Seat has now got use of the new 2.0T for the new Seat Cupra almost before anyone else!!!

Politics has so much to answer for! For the same reason, it will be interesting to see what Jaguar comes out with once Aston Martin is sold from the Ford parent company - until now AM have formed a ceiling above Jag, so their models have been compromised so as not to stand on toes.

The only problem you will have that I can see is that people will always want the latest and greatest so come resale most people will always opt fir the 225. Us that know wont think much of it but joe public will see the changes as being more significant.

As for Jag, lets hope the removal of Aston will allow them to make decent cars again and in turn spur Aston to make even better ones!

Aplogies, I've read it right this time.

I wonder why people started on about one having stronger interals than the other then

(perhaps I'm not the only one who didn't read it...)
