2nd Key+fob + battery failure

Hey all

A few questions:

1) When the battery in the remote fob goes flat, if i change it over do i have to recode the key using the ignition again? Basically, if i delock my car, and the battery goes flat but i replace it, do i still have to climb in through the boot??? Or can the key be recoded through the boot lock...

2) How much is a new key with remote roughly? Not the folding key, as i know thats expensive. All i want is a second key, with remote c/l control, and coded to my car.

Cheers. Look forward to some replies.

1- just swap it over and away you go - never needed to recode an old remote yet - this may help ?

http://www.seatcupra.net/guide_keybattery.htm

2- not sure on current prices but used to be around the £100 mark probably gone up now

£40 remote section (locking)
£15 key blade section
£30 coding immobiliser (passive type)

BTW, i was being a spanner last nite. I didnt mean to spell failure as failer!

One other question though...

Can they use my normal spare key and upgrade it to have the fob on it? Surely it would save a bit of money.....

flapper, I know this is dragging up an old thread and I apologise.

A question on this:

Why do you recommend 2 CR2016's instead of 1 2032?

From what I know, the 2016's are rated at 80-90mAH, and the 2032 is rated at 220-300mAH.

Surely 1 2032 would last longer? Is there something else I am missing?
Cheers mate

totally agree in principle - but in practice on the shop floor found 9/10 owners coming in at 6-9 months with Cr2032 in need of replacing some within weeks even with new cars  whereas the old style 2016 was a 18 month sale at most

it got so obvious as a test we ran 4 vans on both styles and found the 2*2016 lasted 3 times as long as a 2032

our used car salesmen had the idea of changing them to 2*2016 on all the used cars as hew was fed up of the "sorry madam we'll replace them now" routine

all round seemed to work a treat to keep customers happier [B)]

hmmm, how perculiar?

I currently have 2 2016's in my keyfob now. I have had them in since last xmas, so a good year so far. Just as I have delocked and they have lasted a year, I thought I better make sure I have some spares just in case... I did buy a few from battery-force.co.uk but think i must have given them to other people... Silly boy :(

Shall order some more 2016's at some point then! Cheers!

Sorry to drag up an old thread, but it seemed the most appropriate place to post.
The recommendation for 2x2016 batteries rather than 1x2032 is this for the flip key or the non-flip variety? I am having serious problems with my key in that I must have put 6 2032 batteries in it in the last few months and they keep failing. Which is a shame as I have a constant, free supply of them.
Some last a few weeks and others (like the most recent) last a day or two.

The strange thing is that I can lock the car, but not unlock it
