each to their own i suppose it depends how far you want to take it and how much you have to spend i prefer petrol's but diesels make more sence i.e. more mpg cheaper tax more torque :D go for the diesel mate!!

Good points but he might not be planning on tuning it. if you dont do the miles to justify a diesel get a petrol! But to be fair im biased and dnt really care about fuel economy...plus im not the type to go about "collecting coppers of the streets":lol::lol:

I drove both before I bought my 'beeza' and coming from a 100ps Passat, I knew what to expect with the 1.9 TDi. The 1.8T FR petrol was superb, quick and acceleration was great, the ride was a little harsh compared to the diesel sport, but ultimately I knew that I'd either end up needing tyres every other week or I'd lose my licence in quick time!
Took the diesel in the end and haven't looked back - getting it chipped soon too (up from 100bhp to 150 bhp for £300). Strut brace before that too (cheap at £50).

Prior advice is useful - test drive both and even a 1.4 petrol too (gutless IMO)

diesel whats the point in big power petrol you cant really drive over a ton whereas a diesel has plenty of torque and probably quicker to the ton than the petrol, once tuned abit and still when tuned the diesel will be better on fuel

I agree. I've owned a fair few 'hot hatches' over the years (including a 306 Rallye)
Now a convert to diesel. Whilst the 306 arguably handled better, my remapped FR would wipe the floor with it acceleration wise. imo!

scooby so you've got a corsa turbo, as in corsa vxr. What they like mate? saw one the other day and thought it looked well rude! i would have thought the fr diesel would spin its wheels more than the corsa will all the torque

I imagine Scooby Slayer has a Corsa with a C20LET 2.0 16v Turbo lump in it...

Driving a diesel is like being gay. It's more acceptable than it used to be, but it's still fcukin' wrong!

Maybe, but FR or Cupra TDi are both likely to leave yout 2.0 16v in a cloud of black smoke!

The only one gay here is you son! driving around in an old wreck of an ibiza, you'd stand no chance against the dervs, plus we can tune them up more easily for more power compared to your normally aspirated engine:p
