The standard stereo in a 1980`s nova would probably pack more punch than this excuse in the cupras. Does the stereo kick out enough watts to power 6x9`s properly to create a good sound or will i need to wire up an amp?

Cheers

amp would be better, but if you was going that route i'd go for a sub without using 6x9's.

The standard hu isn't too bad, but if you were going the amps route then i would get a 4 channel amp to power front and rear components and a mono block to power sub. You can do this off the standard hu by using hi - low convertors which makes speaker outputs preouts for amps as the standard hu doesn't have any preouts.

Honestly I Wouldnt bother puttin in 6x9's, what ive done is replaced all the standerd speakers using the 6x4's in the rear with standerd HU-sounds so much better and louder and can actually turn the bass up without it distorting, ive also used the high level input for me amp to power a sub, up to you tho bass :)

im running genesis fronts and 6x9's with orion 4x6's

people always think i have a 15" in the boot!

the bass vibrates the windows and i have no "proper subs"

HoocH

is the 6 x 9s off the head unit or an amp what sizw are the front speakers i aint had my door cards off to look yet

im not runnign the standard stereo, i convert them to take a single din!

im running a exad headunit, iirc 6.5" fronts, 6x9's and rears, all cables replaced with high quaility ones and all connections soldered!

5 channel amp

front and rears are running crossovers

What make are the 6x4 speakers, are they a direct fit front and rear. Where did you get them?

Cheers

ive got JBL GTO6427 4"x6" in the rear, carnt remember the make of the front speakers but they're 3way but i made a plywood surround to house the speaker in a screwed the plywood in with some of the holes that are underneath the grill,

Audiobahn 6x9's on a stealth shelf and 6.5" thunder components up front.

Not a bad sound but lacking clarity and punch on the standard head unit.

ive got sony 6x9's in my parcel shelf... no idea what the exact model number is... think they're ok tho

im not really a sound system person... they were fitted when i got the car

anyway... id be happy to swap my parcel shelf and speakers for a standard parcel shelf if ur interested?

Im not a sound man either but from time to time you need some loud tunes and at the moment it sounds naff. Dunno which route to take now!!!

If you dont want to lose boot space then 6x9's are a good comprimise from a normal sub, i would only buy genesis 6x9 subs or similar though. No point playing midbase and higher frequencies in the back. I prefer to have the sound of music in front of me, not firing at the back of my head!

the ibizas standard h/u only pumps out 4x20 watts no where near enough to power 6x9s. I have bought westcoastcustoms orion 6x9s which are 150 watts a peice so better off going down my route of buyin a 400 watt amp or higher.

I currently have a 1400 watt amplifier, power cap, 2x12 inch vibe subs with enclosure and standard 4 car speakers. I agree the standard ones are poo but need replacing the thing is an amp is definatly required.

did you use one of the RCA convertor adaptors aswell? or you got a head unit installed?

If you have 150w 6x9's there your only going to need 300w or more ;)

PS Just a tip, lose the power cap your only adding more load on the battery/alternator which is where the problem lies ;)

With the bass box its just a simple audio cable from there to the amp. The speakers are wired to the headunit how they are installed im not sure as it was done by previous owner. I do have an RCA box which goes to the disc changer.

Without the power cap the lights dim and the power would be drained in minutes. The power cap is great bit of kit! When i was on holiday for 2 weeks the car battery died as soon as i turned the ignition the power cap started charging the car battery then i was able to start it :) I do have it wired up slightly differnt to a normal setup
