oh and there's a black 8v on ebay for £400 which needs just a coilpack or something....very tempted lol i haz 3 spare coilpacks!

doubt it 'only' needs that done
i'm always suspicious when someone can't be bothered to do a simple job & not particularly expensive either

without looking at ad i'd think £400 is too cheap or is that starting point?

i got the 16v i get around 25mpg around town, its strange though it seems that it gets a better mpg when i boot it than when im in "fuel save mode" ie dipping the clutch on hills etc. but it is my daily car and i love it, plenty of poke when you want it

That's because its more efficient to engine brake down hills than it is to dip the clutch and coast...

i have to dissagree yea the 8v was different top end, but i thought there wasnt much difference suppose it depends if you drive like a :censored: 90% of the time then the 8v isnt the best but i thought it was nippy enough

After owning an 8v for over three years and now a 16v the 8v definately felt like it had more torque down low but can't compete after around 3k. For city driving the 8v was nicer and gave a decent amount of shunt even when being driven lazily whereas the 16v does need to be wound out some more.

Economy wise I used to get around 35mpg in the 8v compared with around 33mpg in the 16v so not much difference there. Both were of a similar age, T reg's (registered 2 days apart) and I had the 8v from 62k until 109k when the gearbox grenaded, the 16v I got with 68k and has 72k now so they should hopefully have had a similar amount of wear and tear.

If I am honest there isn't really anything I miss about the 8v in comparison, although pace wise there wasn't a huge difference between them the 16v is just a much more fun drive. The bigger 280mm brakes on the 16v also do make a nice upgrade over the old 8v's.

Cheers for the info and advice guys and girls.
May just go for what comes up next month after I finish and sell one of my tourings. For me its more about reliability and MPG than speed as I'll still have a tuned E30 to surprise the VRX, typeR numpties.
