Hi All

Its been a fair while since I had a Ibiza but with the cost of running my E30 I'm tempted in a little downsizing and running a cupra as my daily. So what I'm after is peoples own experiences with either engine (8v or 16v). I know with VW smaller lumps it's better to stick with 8 valves but with the 2L engine I haven't a clue.

Depends on what you want it for/use it for.

Alot of people say 8v for a daily, and 16v for more track.

I used to have the 16v as a daily, and went real well, but never drove the 8v, so can't comment on that, can only tell you how awesome the 16v was after about 3k, it just always put a smile on my face!!!

Good luck with either :)

I owned an 8v Ibiza for 14 years; and I've had a 16v Cordoba for 1.5 years.

The 8v is definitely a lazier drive and will return far better MPG; the 16v is more fun if you want to push it but be prepared to pay for it at the pumps.

I'll vouch for the 8v. Having never driven the TDi, or the 16v... But the 8v is pretty good on petrol considering, and a good engine! Runs really well, and apparently, there's not much between them (8v + 16v). I find, driving sensibly to work, I do as much, if not more miles to the gallon than my Mk2 1.4.

There are two exceptionally good examples on Pistonheads atm... a Black 8v and a Lazuli Blue 16v. Both low milers! And I mean, LOW miles :p
