Well after 115,000 miles its done what was inevitable and fractured. My local VW specialist wants £300 to replace it, this includes the price of the pedal box and other parts, five hours labour and VAT.

While this seems like a reasonable price for the job described to me, i would'nt mind getting it done cheaper. What prices have other people had and does anyone know of anywhere localish to Chesterfield that could do it cheaper?

Cheers

my cordy cracked the pedal box and I just removed it and welded it up, no problems since.

put on a new cable at the same time as these can become tight and put too much strain on pedal box.

Try drilling and bolting it first, thats what ive done with mine. I got the clutch cable changed on thursday and the clutch pedal is so light and much less of an effort to move.

When mine broke the second time i enquired about the clutch cable causing the break i was told that it wouldnt be that. Took it to a different garage and changed the cable (same garage that fitted my lowering kit) and was told there should be no problems now with it.

I got a quote from them for fitting a new pedal box £380, 8 1/2 hour job. Remember that isnt a dealer so they wont have had that much experience of it. They had done one or two but not the same number i dealer would have!!

the general consensus with the Mk2 ibizas seems to be to drill/bolt it,

A number of the ones that have been welded have gone again, as with those that have had the part replaced with a new one.

That is true, i had mine welded 3 times n it still wouldnt hold together. It is now drilled and bolted together and its fine now, Especially with the new clutch cable on it!!

WOOHOO welded back together with enough weld for it to take a huge pounding before it will go again, had the cable replaced a few months back so now they are both at 100% they should be good for another 115,000 miles.

Oh the price, £15 all in but gave him a 20 for doing a good job. If anyone in the Chesterfield area needs welding i can recomend PB Welding :)
