Check your coil for a small crack. Meaning remove and inspect, the cracks usually show in the underside.
Usually will get worse in the wet or when yuo've just washed it.

Failing that temperature switch if it is none of the more obvious stuff like ignition electrics and vacuum lines etc.

definitely not electrical, as my coil pack went not long ago, changed that, dizzy cap, rotor arm, ht leads and sparks!
i think its my throttle body to be fair, i cleaned it well it was on, but really need to take it off one day and clean it proper!
touchwood she's being good at the moment! lets hope she stays sweet!

(oh yeah to my surprise i was cleaning the car and thought let me check the airbox and voila...a k&n panel filter lol scoreeeee, just dirty as fook, so when thats cleaned it should run sweet! but the plum has drilled and smoothed the airbox, but he drilled the whole box, but then filled the holes with fibre glass, so all that smoothing is worth nowt lol)

This is getting really bad for me now. OllieL pointed out a split hose to me which i have sorted but it doesnt seem to have cleared the coughing idle and lag. Now also when i try and clear the coughing idle i tend to get a 'click' in the accelerator.

Bit odd this is dude. Have you changed your manifold yet?
Might be worth taking the plunge, doing that, and giving everything the once over.
Does sound like the problem I had with my vac hoses, but if you changed that one with a hole in it then it shouldn't be that
Silly question, but your exhaust isn't blowing is it?

Just waiting to get a rocker cover ( will a mk2 golf 16v one fit) so i can have it painted red then the car is going in for a service and to have the new bits fitted ???

Not mate, clutch is fine and the revs dont drop....i am starting to think it may be the decat.

mine came back on friday when i wanted to go back home from uni, was totally crap all the way home, then when i got home i went to pick up a takeaway for my family, and it was back to being a beast again!

i did notice something though, when i started her up, i always wait til she fires up, then turn the key back slightly (have always done this, since my old astra got stuck on the ignition part and worn out the starter motor) but before i went home i did turn it back a little early before it fired up properly? then i did the same on saturday, but i turned the car off again and started it properly, could be an electrical problem?

If its okay from cold until warm, then starts having a problem. then if you leave it half an hour, start it and its fine again until warm, it could be the speed sensor, which should give a fault code going on forum members with that fault.

its a magnet and loses efficiency when warm sometimes.

check out g28 speed sensor on a search, if that sounds right.

Crack case position sensor

Head Gasket

Those are the likely cause if the cheap things have been investigated.

I had the same thing, it was a failed head gasket that was allowing water into the cylinders when it got hot causing a misfire and the lag

Dont know becuase if i hold the revs at about 3k for a few seconds it clears.....and i am thinking that if it was that, holding the revs would make it worse.

I blew a head gasket on a saxo vtr once and it used to blow water caps clean off becuase the presure was so high....haha....

I used to be able to rev mine out of the stutter. Happened most up to about 3000 revs then would take off like **** off a shovel. Happened a lot when just cruising for a long time, not really when giving it pasty, guess the 16v just burns too hard to bothered by a bit of water.

hurrmmmm, have been playing with the piper cross viper induction kit i took of my 8v and put it o my 16v this morning. All is ok but there is no space for this suspect pipe that ollie pointed out to me was possibly the cause of the lag problem.....i know know that the pipe in question sucks air as if i put my finger over it can feel it.

I am going to run the viper kit for a week and see how i get on but just when i turned it over out side it was chuggging chuggggging chuggging away like a tractor and sounded horrible !!!!!...I just need a rocker cover so i can paint it and then it can go to the garage.
