hey guys. I'm really struggling to decide between the Ibiza 1.9TDi Sport (100ps) and the 1.9TDi Sport (130ps). The main problem is that I'm only 18 and when i get it shall have one years no claims - i know the 100ps model is only group 5 insurance so i would find it much easier and cheaper to insure - anyone else 18 and tried getting insured on the 130ps model? I'm upgrading from a mk4 1.4 98 Polo so even the 100bhp shall feel a lot faster, but do you guys have any other advice about which would be best to go for and why? Also without spending way to much does anyone know the how fast i could actually take the 100ps model, i would definaltly be planning on a remap so should take it to around 135bhp i hope, but could i do much else?

Anyways any help relating would be much appreciated.

I whent for the 130 model, but wish I actually bought the PD100 from the start and not got my 1.2. As already mentioned, with a few tweaks you should see around 150bhp.

Styling wise, if your going to change it all anyway, then doesnt matter which one you go for!
 
Yeah cheers matey, i think the pd100 shall be the best choice, as insurance is a big problem at my age. And compared to the 60bhp polo beast i have now it will be a HUGE improvement. Need to try and find a decent one now.
 
yeah the fact the PD100 is only group 5 is the main reason why i'm probs gonna go with that one, i got a quote for me and my brother to get insured on it for £1500 fully comp (we've both jus about turned 18), and thats with direct line so we shall both get some no claims discount.
 
A 100bhp diesel is plenty quick enough for someone who has not been driving long. There's been quite a few threads on here lately about people crashing their 'uber fast' Ibiza's.

Best to take it easy, and upgrade as you get a bit more experience.

I got a 1.9TDi FR..nothing too wonderful about that until I got my insurance quotes through. Now I'm 38 and have 10+ years no claims discount but it's on another car (I have a MPV fror the billions of kids I have). I had to start again with this car! I got a quote from Norwich Union when I brought it to get their Driveaway temp cover..their quote was £1300..My other cars have never got above 300 quid fully comp! I used confused.com to do a search and ended up with insurance from the AA for £550. They also threw in 3 years NCD to start me back off again.
I think the message here is use those insurance tools to get quotes before buying. You can get most of the details from the number plate for doing this.

Personally, I'm dead happy with the 1.9TDi FR. I do long drives for commuting and it works well at speed on the MW's, keeps fuel consumption low and is a bit of fun on the streets too!

If the insurance you've been using for the MPV is in your name, then your NCB should apply to any car that you drive ??!

Wouldn't you think that would be a sensible way to work..but no..! My experiance with questioning insurance poeple is that the NCB transfers to the car and it cannot be used to "cover" more than one car. I've questioned this a number of times 'cause to me (a simple person) it seems barking mad.

If there's another way , I'd love to hear about it!

My NCB has always gone with me regardless of what cars I've changed through, thought this was normal :confused:

I'm on 10+yrs NCB and in that period I've owned a Golf, Clio, Rover, Ibiza and Passat...
 
How come I've managed to change cars and still continue my NCB then (often with the same insurer) ?
 
We're not talking about changing cars, we're talking about insuring two cars at the same time - you can only use your NCB on one car at once. If you insure a second at the same time - you have to earn NCB on that policy from scratch
 
yeah cheers for the help guys. 100bhp will do me fine for a while and i can get it looking nice in the mean time. I shall be choosing carefully as its going to be a lot of money compared to my previous car. I'll probs be getting T-Spark to have a look at any that I look at as he knows a lot more than me to be honest, but i'm definatly looking forward purchasing one. Again thankyou for the help.

Ah OK, my mistake, must have misread.
Surprises me that's the case with second cars though, but I'll stop going off topic now :)

Ah...'ang on...have you had those cars one after the other or at the same time? You can transfer NCB from one car to another but it seems you *can't* use the same NCB for more that 1 car at the same time. And it don't seem to be taken "properly" into consideration if you do get a second car...although it is getting better.
