Also, pull the key apart and check that it's got the right part number and frequency printed on it (see above).

To pull the remote apart, flip the key open and look inside the recess where the key normally sits when folded. there is a small, transverse, slot where the two halves of the remote meet.

Put a screwdriver in there and gently turn it.

This will release the two halves of the remote (the body and the top part with the key hinged off it).

Pull them apart and look at the shiny part of the remote body (the bit with the remote buttons on it), that is normally hidden inside when the remote is in one piece.

The details are printed in tiny yellow lettering with a dot-matrix printer, so are hard to read. That'll confirm that you've been sent the right key body, at least.

Do the same with your original key, make sure they match. The code above is the right one for my Mk2 (Built May07, registered June 07).

Tried de-programming the key as suggested but couldn't even get that to work, batteries seem ok as when you press the button the light on the fob flashes.

Have just checked the part no and found 'HLO 1KO 959 753 G' on old and new keys

still struggling

Lost Flip Key

Hello All,
I (or my 15 month old daughter) have 'relocated' the flip key for my Leon to an unknown location.

I have only the spare key now which opens and starts they car but has no remote and sets the alarm off if I dont start the ignition within 15 seconds of opening.

I understand a replacement from the dealer will be approx £150 (Camberley and Datchet) so Im hoping do it cheaper !

Ive read some other threads on here which suggest I can buy a 'blank' VAG key from ebay, get it cut at a locksmiths then try and program it to the car. However it appears that you still need the original flip/remote key to synchronise the new key to the car (or so it says in the manual).

Can anyone confirm this is the case or if there is some other way to program a new flip/remote key without the original one, only the 'manual 'one' ? I also heard I could cut out the transponder from the 'manual' key and put it in the new one but this sounds like the sort of thing I'd completely mess up and end up with no working keys at all !

Hope someone can help me out of a pickle ! In the meantime I spend another few hours looking in shoes, plant pots, under sofas...

thanks,
Nick

If a key's been programmed before can it be re-programmed easily then?

Looking at one on e-bay (HLO 1KO 959 753 G FREQUENCY (434MHZ) )but the seller says it needs to be programmed to your immobiliser by a professional????

Edit............................

OK, no go without VAGcom or destroying your original spare key then :( You can't just program it?
