Advice on running costs of a cupra

Hi
Basically im looking to change my car in 2 months time when my insurance is up and am looking at gettin a cupra. I can afford to buy the car, insure it and pay general running costs such as services. However, I would be looking to do some basic mods such as remap, induction kit etc and am worried that I would not be able to afford to run it (mainly petrol costs) after this has been done. I will be going to uni soon and wont be earning enough to waste loads of money on petrol. any advice would be great and if people could post how much they spend on fuel, mpg etc that would be great. cheers:)

i managed to run my cupra for the last 12months which was my final year at uni. i wont lie it was hard. but that was basically due to the amount of debt i had from buying the car. had i not been paying off credit cards and having 80quid for insurance debited every month it would have been far easier and not so much more on fuel over my old 1.6 206 which i had for the first 2 years of uni

i drive about 30miles roundtrip for uni 3-4times a week and have been looking at around 25-30quid a week on fuel

tbh the mods wont severely affect the fuel. 25-35mpg average

Mine has the same mods (remap, filter, exhaust)and I rarely drop below 30mpg, drive like a granny on the motorway and I see 40mpg on the trip computer. Tbh the Ibizia has cost me peanuts to run, don't worry about it. Insurance is high though obviously.

I'm certainly going to miss the performance/costs ratio of the ibiza when I sell it shortly.

its not really maint costs, i like to put decent oil in, not OE oil though.

Its all about petrol and modding costs, because once you pop, you just cant stop!

Petrol, i get 200 miles to on heavy driving. Probably 300 normal.

cheers for the info. sounds ok then...i thought id be spending a good £50+ on fuel alone. can afford the insurance its around 1300 third party (wil prob be going fully comp) which is surprisingly cheaper than other cars ive have looked at such as 106gtis, polo gtis etc. its just gunna be a case of finding a decent one without too many miles on it:). cheers for the help anyway guys:D

I do 200 miles a week too and from work, mainly motorway, and i average out at about 30mpg. And thats cruising at 80-90mph on the motorway, and the occasionally early morning top speed run (130+). Usually 1 tank a week costing about £45.

Your not going to get a performance car, with great MPG simple as that!

If you need to worry about petrol costs, then dont mod it! £500 remap, = £50 petrol a week for 2 1/2 months!

The remap wont really affect the MPG unless you floor it.

I found pre-remap i was getting ~22-25mpg, post-remap I can easily sit @ 40mpg taking it easy.

Theyre not cheap cars to run, but I never skimp on any service parts, always use geniune or better. It gets driven hard always and needs TLC.

It shouldnt make much difference having the mods done, the only thing that will be is the way you drive it! The faster the car the faster you will want to drive and that means more fuel etc

I would say i do about 250 miles per tank and thats with some hard driving and some not but i could probably get 300 out of her if i did a constant trip, put it this way i drove back from St.Ives in Cornwall last year and i used 3/4 of a tank of fuel, so that means i had driven about 250 miles and had about 50+ left in there

Its never cost me more than £40 to fill her up and thats when im using Optimax ;)

One thing i would suggest though is to fill the car up rather than outting £10 here and £10 there in as i use loads more doing it that way, if i fill her up i can do about 70 miles without the needle even moving (which is about £15) if i just put £10 in i get about 60 miles so i think you do benefit by filling up

Oh and dont quote me on exact figures here im just talking generally from things i have seen

well basically i was just thinking that seeing as it is pretty much a performance car and it has a turbo id be looking at more like £80 a week just on general driving. but as you say if i can drive steady and still gain decent mpg then thats great because it means i can afford to get one!!:D thanks for all the help again. hopefully il be posting up a thread of my new cupra soon :) (well, 2 months :()

When the tanks been almost dry i've fitted in 47L before. And with Optimax now @ £1. You do the math.
