Aerial Base Removal

Hi Guy's,

Has anyone ever removed the aerial base from a Mk4 Ibiza ?

I have an aerial open circuit error in VagCom and am wanting to fix it.

I would guess it is a big job, headlining down the lot ?

Unless of course anyone knows different....

I can't be certain, but in my old golf you had to take the headlining down. Then there should be some screws/bolts holding the aerial base in place. Can't be 100% sure though mate.

Definitely check around, because i remember someone mentioning that for the golf you could open the boot and just prise the necessary part of the headlining down to reveal the fitting.

Yep, take the rear plastic off between the two c pillars (just pull) then yank the headlining down a bit and there is a single nut to undo. the base will simply come loose!

I've just done this on my Mk2 Leon (but probably not different for the Ibiza).

Open your boot, then pull the head lining down from inside the rubber seal, around the back edge of the roof. You can now push your hand in and carefully pull the lining down from the roof (it might also be lightly bonded + clips too).

There are 2 leads coming from the Antenna base - one being a power feed, plus the other being signal. Suspect you have a short circuit or issue with the power lead connector.

EDIT: try not to FOLD the headlining down - keep it as straight as possible - , or it could create a crease, when you fit it back up again!

I don't think the MK4 ibiza has an amp in the base so I expect there will just be a single coax connection..

Well got my aerial base off..

Like said above, pull the plastic trim off between the 'C' pillars and carefully pull down the headling to get to the bolt..

I did manage to crease it a bit, but I think it will be ok..
I haven't put everything back yet as not a lot of point until I sort it out, but the headling looks to have settled down and any crease marks seem to have settled and faded for the moment. I think it will be fine once all refitted.

The aerial base does actually contain a circuit board, so it must be an amp..
Mine is all white and coroded up so I am hoping that is why the radio doesn't work and Vag-Com can see an aerial open circuit fault logged..

I buzzed out the cable back to the set and that was ok, read less than an ohm.

So, TPS tomorrow to order a new base, refit it middle of the week when it arrives, and fingers crossed I can listen to the footie on the radio !!

New aerial base fitted, all of 18 quid including an new aerial..

Guess what, radio now works and vagcom error now gone.

The jobs a good un !!

Sorry to bump this thread a little, but this may be a little bit of a thick question, however the thread on my newly bought base is horizontal, how do I turn it up to allow me to screw in the aerial.

For future information I got:

Base: 1P0 035 501 A
VW Polo Stubby Aerial: 6R0 035 849
