hello, i have just bought a 51 plate alhambra tdi se model 82 000 miles covered, i dont think the air con is running right as it doesnt kick out very cold air when asked if i have read the book right of course to set it too this? it has a climantronic system fitted which to a numbty like me is close to programming a 747 for take off, the car has been stood for four months without use, would that effect the system? is there a common failure in the pipes or valves that allow the gas to escape, any advice is allways appreaciated.

cheers

leave the system off & radio off.... have the engine running for approx 5 minutes, then with you sat in turn on the A/c - can you hear the engine drop in tone (as the a/c takes a drain on the engine) - if not... then it maybe that you need to have the car vag-com'd to confirm that you don't have any unreported electrical issues.....

if you do hear the engine tone change then yeah you may need to get the system re-gasd.... I have had mine done a few times.... brrrrr cold later, but as the bammer is a big motor its not going to be really really cold inside.... if you follow

I have an 02 bammer TDI and the aircon failed last month, had it regassed and it went again within a week:(. just had it checked for leaks. None found :)but the compressor is gone:cry:. Chatting with the Jim at SJB's in basingstoke, this is a very common fault on all VAG cars, compressor lasts 5 years max. Apparently they should be serviced regularly incl oil service. Don't think this is included in the standard service, so often doesn't get done.
new compressor from £300 (£500 from dealer) plus fitting

Anyone know what the part number is for the compressor? And if you can get a refurbished one rather than a new replacement?
