Air con not cold - tried regas no success...?

Hey folks,

So I noticed when the air con is on 'LO' the air does not blow particularly cold, so the obvious choice was to take it for a regas, which I did.

Kwik Fit had it plugged in for an hour, then said it has made no difference, and did not charge me, but basically said it had gas in it prior to refilling, so a leak didn't seem to the be what they thought to blame.

That's as far as we got, said it might be a fuse or something but one of them said he thought he could hear the compressor kicking in.

Where do I start with this one?? The pressure switch seems to be a common fault judging by a search, but im not keen to shell out money for nothing (and get no chicks for free).

Any ideas???

Hmmm I really know nothing about how aircon systems work however I find that mine only really gets cold when I have the recirc' switched on, if you haven't tried it might be worth a go?

I have the same issue. Only mine is because the compressor is broken and will be about £500 to fix (NOT by SEAT).

I took mine to my local Seat and asked them to check and requested that they did not charge me for any work, that I simply wanted a check done. They did so and that is what they came back with. I hope that's not the case for you, but be prepared if it is! It's about £900 including parts and labour if you get it done by Seat...

Jimbo - neither mate, same on those.

Hey Kaz, I did suspect compressor, if it's that it's going as I am not paying out for it, as much as I love the car! I might see if the compressor turns on but it's hard to tell I guess! Does yours make a noise? I know I get all sorts of weird and wonderful noises behind the fan area from my car, knocks and whirrs!

If the pressure switch has failed the compressor won't kick in, so you won't know if it's working or not. switch failed on our 08 plate Leon when it was about 18 months old, replaced under warranty. tech said it was a common failure.

Well you can always get the part cheaper elsewhere and if you know anyone who would do it for you it would be cheaper than having it done at Seat that's for sure!

I'd say get it checked by your local dealer as soon as, then you know what you're potentially dealing with.

Mine takes a while from switching on until it gets properly cold. Have you left it on LO whilst driving for a while?

Had the same problem! I had a pressur switch replaced 2 weeks ago, didnt solve it, so last week it was in getting the turbo sorted and told them it still wasnt working properly and they then replaced the compressor. Both under warranty, and they regassed too! Works excellent now, just in time for the nice weather too!

Get it vagcom'd to see if there is a G65 error. This is the pressure sender. If there is then this will be holding off the air con and won't start the compressor. It happened to me a month ago.

The part was about £40 from dave at sere but is a pain in the ass to change as there is very little room to get around the sender to get it out but it can be done. You also don't lose any gas as there is a valve on the connection where the sender screws onto which automatically closes.

Hope its just the sender.....

I checked it last night by turning it on to 'LO' when the car was idling and the revs did not drop at all, I went from HI to LO and it was the same revs.

I tried to listen to the engine bay as well to see if I could hear a compressor kicking in, no sound, but then it's quite a loud engine :D!

Will use VCDS later on, what block am I checking for? As im pretty sure when I changed my Gateway a few weeks back I didn't have any errors but then didn't really check anything AC related.

Mine isn't particularly cold, although the rev's change and I can hear the compressor, so I'm hoping a regas will sort mine.

I'll be kicking myself if its the compressor, when I wrote off my last leon I toyed with the idea of taking the compressor, but didn't bother in the end

Ok here are some VCDS diagnostics;

Having the same issues with mine had the regas done about three weeks ago they put in approx 552g of gas, Went away for the weekend went to use the AC for the first time and nothing was blowing warm air through, took it to the garage yeterday after i used vag com when i got home and got an error of "00229 - Refrigerant Pressure: UPPER Limit Exceeded which before the regas was Lower Limit exceeded. They went through the re-gas procedure and sifend off the excisting gas and ony got 110g off and put backon the 552g again and still not working. Cars booked in on Thusday for investigations hopelly not to expensive.

My last 07 fr done the same. The dealer replaced the pressure switch but it made no difference.
It then went back in and got the compressor replaced which solved the problem.
The new one was modified so was ok in the 3 years after that I owned it.
Think cars after 08 or 58 had the modified one fitted from the factory.

Thanks guys for the heads up.

Well my LCR is still under manufacturers warranty until mid 2013 and was bought last December and today was the first time I tried to use the air conditioning, so I'll be ringing my local to have it looked at.
