Air Conditioning Problem?

I'll bear that in mind. I have a feeling my wage packets going already.
Here a couple of pics of the offending pipe anyway so you can have a look.

As you can see its only this section of pip and I can't see it can be anything else as the rest of the pipe work, the block and engine shield is dry apart from under this pipe.

It seems like there's a repair kit for that area of the condensor pipework - see here:

Maxcars 1 - have you changed your pollen filter? i do mine yearly as it fills up with dirt and prevents air from passing through it thus decreasing the ac's power and cooling capacity

I suppose it may be prudent to change as they're quite cheap - last changed 15mths ago on the 40k service.

Ouurg! Totaly usless Seat dealer again, they can't get the car in till next week to look at the fault codes (Even with a print out of said codes infront of them) so they won't even consider ordering the parts till after that, so I'm going to rost for another week.

i've got mine booked in to (not one of the above mentioned) dealerships to have the entire compressor replaced (aparently) as i moaned about it not being cold and making a funny noise.

after going in twice and them not fault finding it properly the first time... we will see...

seems to be a reasonably common thing to go wrong...

I thought the compressor either worked or didnt and normally you can hear the compressor working. Umm interesting - keep us posted

Mr Claypole, I hope you ask them to empty the system, sometimes when compressors go wrong,( even new ones ) they can start to force compressor oil around the system.
This could ultimately lead to blockages in capillaries and other bottle neck area’s.
(more work and frustration) if your car was not under guarantee, it would be a very expensive job indeed.
So make sure your happy with it when they tell you the work is done.

Well I took my car in yesterday and the news is not good, well not in the long run anyway.

Apparently my air con compressor is the source of my leak not the pipework. Jody from Midland VW has checked and the pipes are definitely not leaking. However there is fluid weeping from the compressor (from the spindle). He said theres an accumulation of oily deposits on the belt pulley as well as the pipe photgraphed , the engine shield and apparently a couple of parts behind the compressor. He says it look as if the fluid is being thrown off by the compressor pulley as its spinning. (centrifugal force.)
He has said to just to keep an eye on it at the moment (as the aircon still works) as although its an expensive job to fix, it doesn't warrant the work being done just yet.

I am a little relieved its not an expense just yet, but not that i know money will need to be spent later.

At least you can budget for it now Isnt there a repair kit for the front end of the compressor? Looking on the net today, there are a few Mk4 s around that you could buy from - beats dealer prices.

I must say chill 14 you seem to be taking what is said to you as gospel, i do not wish to compound your worries over this situation.
however, can we get back to some facts? the compressor is the source of power, right, we have established there is indeed a leak.a leak on the pipework,a leak on the compressor spindle,is still a drain on your system.
if you run that system dry, your going to lose your compressor,(fact) expensive replacement, (yes)
If you spend the money now, ie ruduce the risk of further escillating costs it might be the lesser of two evils. think damage limitation.

I see your point, but the fact the compressor is leaking from the spindle I would assume (rightly or wrongly) that its the compressors internal seals that are going. Im therefore going to either need a new compressor or a rather expensive repair on this one and a complete system refill anyway?

Please don't get me wrong, I agree that its got to be done. It just that if the outcome is going to be the same, then do I do it now and leave myself short of cash for my holiday next month, or save for a bit afterwards and do it later on when I've got less demands on my money.

I do check the other fluids weekly on the car (habit from my old Pug days. It just to leak as it pleased), so I will keep an eye on it in mean time. If it does get worse quickly though then the decision is made for me anyway.

The car will also be due for it next service around August anyway as the mileage is coming up again so if it not gone by then I will get it checked again then and make a decision.
