Air distribution selector not working

The rotary knob to select screen/vent/floor air direction isn't working - just rotates freely.

I've done a search and there are a couple of posts about the cable becoming detached but not much other info.

Does the heater panel come out easily and is it likely to be obvious what's wrong?

The cable has come out the back, bit of a fiddle but its more than likely dropped off the heater box end.

Can I get at it under the dash, or is it a horrible dash out job?

Its easier with the centre console out. The cable is only about 6 inches long or so, goes upwards.

More the lower part that comes out (around the gearlever etc)

Had a look at this today and there seemed to be a bit (1/8" - 3mm) in out movement of the knob. Pushed it a bit and it started to go back into the dash!

So I pulled out the cubby above it and put my hand inside behind the knob and pressed the front at the same time and it seemed to somehow press back together with the front and it works fine again!

Phew!! Lot easier than I feared, and thanks techie for the advice.

what size torx did you use to undo the 2 bolts????!

I didn't undo any bolts (or screws etc). Which bolts are you thinking of?
