afr is your mixture
on idle and cruise it should sit around 14.7 region or lambda of 1 depending on the scale/unit used

under boost on remapped cars you would expect the afr to drop into the 12's or 0.8x

numbers>14.7/1.00 are leaner
numbers <14.7.1.00 are richer

Sorry to sound like a broken record Bill (and sorry for invading the thread!) but what about non-remapped cars - you've said in the past I think that EGT's cause it to richen, what do they have to hit to do this? Or is it not that straightforward?

look to fitted 3 gauges into the middle dash vents or on top of the dash, already got boost and oil pressure on order (both digital) but also wanted air/fuel wide band gauge

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=120708956413&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT is this one any good ?

and i'm not sure what the readings actually mean can anyone explain ?
I have bought the new Innovate AFR set up called MXT.
The above link is only the gauge. You also need the hardware like the probe, well and wiring to get the information for the gauge.
I believe the Innovate is as good as you need for the price. There are others that are more expensive but just depends on what you think you need.
Also depends on what your mapper prefers too.
Mine has aslked me to get the Innovate one.

This is what I've got, this is the newest AFR gauge set up from Innovate.

Note you get a choice of length of cabling with this too, I went for the 8ft one to be sure. This is super fast reacting to warn you of any issues instantly so you can react to them before **** gets tits up.

Exactly the reason I bought this too.
I'm sure you can get a cheaper one, but if you don't trust it what's the point.
Reassuringly expensive ;)

i guess , at rollers mine was hovering between 14.7-14.5 then drop 12-11.7 on WOT in 4 gear was told thats ok but i'm curious to no how can it be ok if i had hesitation shouldn't the fuelling/air be out

cars with egt probes like LCR's will fuel dump to richer than 0.75 when temps >920'c

on the dyno i see them run 0.95 as std under boost then drop to 0.69/0.75 when they fuel dump when hot

Yeah that was the model I had don't get me wrong it was good but my aem one is just 3 wirers the rest is plug and play plus its a 6-1 gauge for different fuel readings and voltage plus also beeps at you if it goes.to rich or lean...and flashes at you....

At the end of the day they all do the same thing but my old innovative one I had to keep calibrateing it every few weeks...my aem learns its self.

Thanks Bill, appreciate it. So basically as standard, if my car doesn't richen up then that's cos it isn't getting overly hot? Just two dyno operators (both Jap specialists, not VAG specialists) have expressed surprise that it doesn't richen up.

if mapped it should richen up under boost, from cruise lambda of 1 down into the 0.8x numbers, and if hot it will dive below 0.75 as it fuel dumps

block 001,031,112 will show this happening when it happens

Speaking of wideband AFR gauges - does the LC/LFR (AUQ engine, late model, made in 2005) have a wideband or a narrow-band oxygen/Lambda sensor?

Thank you,
