:help: Hey Guys

ive notice that the front passenger side footwell there was a bit wet a few days ago after i was going to get some new mats put down, so i dried it with news paper. To help it a long i thought i would turn on the aircon to help it dry, after a finished i noticed a hell of a lot of water behind the passengers seat. Ive tried to dry it for days now and its still soaking. i think ive isolated the problem to the aircon with the arrow point down which makes it leak. Ive had this sort of problem before with my old Leon but the problem went away on its own, does anybody know what the possible cause of this is and how it can be fixed.

Thanks for your time

It won't be the aircon itself leaking, it would very rapidly run out and it would have a very strong chemical smell to it (and probably wouldn't make you feel very good!). If the cooling system was leaking you'd notice your water level drop on the expansion tank. And that would probably smell quite strong as well.

I would suspect the pollen filter housing letting water in, then you adjusting the air con to point downwards is letting the water through to the car. Do a quick search for pollen filter housing, hopefully one of them will be similar to what you're seeing.

Is the air conditioning drain pipe blocked? Look into the engine bay at the passenger side at the firewall - inspect the sound deadening until you find a small section that is pre-cut as a flap - behind this is a little rubber L-shaped pipe pointing downward which is meant to poke through the sound deadening and drain out condensate from the air con to the ground. The pipe might be stuck inside the deadening material. Check this is clear - if fluid is backing up in the air con unit and sloshing about, chances are it's tipping into the air vent for the floor.

Hope this helps

Hey guys thanks for the help and support i have changed the pollen filter i checked out the seals on the housing and they sem to be fine. Im unaware to where all the water came from as it was a huge amount of water, it may have been built up over time as i dont use the down button on the aircon. i will see if this mend the problem as when removing the pollen filter there was a gap in the filter on the side as it wasnt fitted correctly.

I have notice that under the carpet it has water, im not sure how it has got there in all fairness. I press down on the floor and can hear it squeltching. I think im going to check all the door seals see what happening with it. Has anyone else here of this sort of thing happening before?

Put it in the search m8 there's hundreds of threads on wet carpets, probably the most common fault every Leon has.....

It will be your door seal on which ever part the carpet is wet..... So you could do with doing the passenger side ASAP.... Your air con does not put water in the car.... Do you find your windows steam up alot

Yeah my windows are always steamed up everytime i get in the car. The front Passengr side footwell is ok its just the passenger side rear thats wet and has water under it. Its mind boggling at the moment trying to fault find what up with it.

Could also be the pollen filter cover not fitted right ot the housing is leaking

Ive changed the pollen filter in the car there was a gap in the pollen filter when i took it out as someone didnt fit it correctly, from my visual inspection of the housing and how it was seated everything seemed sturdy with the seal in good condition. The new Pollen filter is fitted with not gaps like in the previous one.

Don't forget water can flow front to back, my pollen filter was leaking but the puddle was in the back. It was because my car is parked on a very very slight incline. The front carpet was still wet but not as bad as the rear.

I get you when i parked a hill with the nose of my car pointing uphill, thats when i had a massive puddle in my car but that was also when thats when i tried drying the front carpet as it was abit wet, but in trying to help it dry quicker i had the arrow facing down on the air conditioning which some users say it may have been that which may a have let in water but it seemed like too much from that area.

Well in the end i found the problem after a month of looking, the passenger side door the was about a 1-2mm gap that was letting in water, as the uk has been really bad lately with the rain the water had a pond in the back footwell so i had to sort it.

I had a look on youtube and came across this video

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BdsdV21C4TY

*I did this with my car and it fixed the problem, i also removed all the seals around the door and re fitted them.
*With the carpet that was soaked to the bone i had to take out the under lay which i cut away having to drain all the water out of it close to 2 litres came out of the front and back.
*Dried the carpet within the car
* Once everything was dry i poured water all over the effected area and not a drop came through, so once that check was done i fitted everything back.

Thank you to everyone who gave advice and the video was a massive help :)
