Hi All,

I have had an odd problem that keeps coming back about once a month where i will go to get into my car, so unlock it, jump in the car, turn it over and the car sounds like it struggles to turn over. Where it take about 3 seconds to turn over instead of the normal 1-2 seconds but does start.

Problem is that once it has started and the engine is running the car alarm light on the door starts blinking so its re-armed itself, so as soon as i move in the car it sets the alarm off.

So have to turn engine off, take key out and press unlock on remote key

I'm thinking that i might have jinxed it as was talking it a mate who recently had to change his battery when i said that i have never had to replace my car battery in my Leon ever as its the same one since new

Is this problem down to the battery on its way out or something else? Car only does short trips to work and never have the problem after the car has been for a longer drive.

Thanks for your time. :D

Mines been doing that too. It did it mainly when hot as it would bearly start when hot so I replaced the starter motor which stopped it when hot but it's done it a few time from cold so I checked the battery and it drops to 12.5v over night so I think it must need a new battery to stop the alarm problem.

Have not had a chance to test my battery yet but if it is the battery i would not expect the car to turn over instantly the second time without any problems as mine does?

When it happens the engine starts after about 3 seconds of turning and holding the key but then the flashing alarm light on the door starts flashing, so i have to stay very still, turn off engine, then take key out and press unlock on the key.

When starting the engine up again it starts in about a second without a problem and does not re-arm the alarm.

Could be faulty door lock module. Mine has done that a couple if times ages ago and I know my door lock module has a fault although has been alright for a few months.

Yeah I had this problem a couple of years ago. If I started the car in the morning it would set the alarm off. If I started the car after it had already had a run out it would be fine. I put a new battery on and I couldn't believe how much quicker the engine turned over. Hope you get it sorted soon.

Snap. Battery was dying back in the winter and the alarm would keep going off.

It's usually the crank power. A battery might be able to make the lights work, but if the crank power is failing it will have trouble starting the car.

My only problem now is how do i change the battery without losing my Revo remap :help:
As last time i disconnected the battery it went back to stock and had to go back to the garage i had it done and get it reset.

Can i use jump leads to connect the car to the new battery wile i take the old one out and then install the battery in place? If you know what i mean

Cheers

Is there any chance you are unlocking the car, waiting 30 seconds and then turning the engine over? You need to open the drivers door within 30 seconds of unlocking it for some reason otherwise the alarm tends to go off.

No chance mate, i don't live in my car  So have to unlock car with key fob and open the car door before i can sit in it and turn if over. I can see if i was in the car already and locked\unlocked it that the car alarm would rearm after 30 seconds but i would have herd the doors locked as well.

This might be a safer bet? Wonder if this would work?

I always thought when you remapped your ecu, the stock map was copied to file incase you wanted to change back then rewritten with the new map, meaning the new map would be permanently stored on the chip no matter if the ecu lost power or not!!! Am I behind the times, or too far into the future!lol.

Correct sir :D
Hooked up my vault meter and the crank amps fell below 8v.
Replaced the battery at the weekend and now the car starts up even quicker and one thing i noticed is that i can have the radio on before turning engine on and the power will not cut out to the radio as you turn the car over. Mind you it does have top of range £100 bat installed now :funk:

Thanks for all your helps everyone

Yep, it's flashed onto the chip.

Your phone is the same, otherwise it would be bricked whenever the battery ran out!
