My orange K1 since I've had it has always had mismatched paint on the the bumpers from whats on the car, but now the paint is peeling and chipping like nobodys business!
Have had the paint looked at by a specialist, who in not so many words said the paint on the kit was not very good.
He then started checking paint thickness on the steel panels, and told me to expect 80-120microns thickness. My car was showing 280-390microns all over! Has anyone else every had the paint checked to this extent? Looking at the touch up pot I have, this colour does look pretty thick paint.
And has anyone managed to claim under warranty for poor paintwork on bumpers/body kits?
Have been told by Seat that it is possible, but have also been told i need to return to the dealer which fitted the kit which is proving to be an issue:confused:

I'm the 3rd owner, picked it up at 11months old. No signs of a respray. The paint guy couldn't see anything either. The inner panels such as door shuts etc came out at around 180micron.

The bumpers would have been sprayed by a dealer / body shop (fitted after delivery) and the plastic might not have been treated properly before spraying.

my body kit aint great as well but been told off a really good body shop that this is normal and it be cause the paint lay different on the plastic so reflects the light in a diffrent way

Is it possible that it started its life as a dealership test drive car? [I forgot what they're called]

The rear bumper is a different colour from the rear wings on my MY11 Speed Blue Cupra and I have had it from new, so it came from the factory like that.

My rear bumper on my Candy White FR is ever so slightly a different shade especially when dirty with traffic film. I put that down to the difference between metal and plastic being painted.

If the paint is peeling and chipping then it should be covered under the paint warranty.

On my K1 (red). It is the same the rear plastic bumper is a different shade to the rest of the bodywork.

An independant has looked at mine and said it is very difficult to avoid the slight colour mismatches as plastic and metal take the colour differently and as mentioned reflect differently albeit he did say if you know what you are doing you can get a seemless match!

he K1 kit came from new separate from the car and they were either sprayed by dealers or elsewhere and then fitted at the dealerships to the cars.

My front bumper is ditched, the paint has peeled in places and full of stone chips and only done 20K miles, it is a common problem and like you said it's cause the paint has not bonded to the bumper properly.

I will have my front end treated and resprayed at some point and will cost around 200-250 to do from a quote or two I have had.
