ok typical

just bought the egr valve remover from dozza. (thanks buddy)

rang my mate who is new at VW and is gonna do the valve for me and clean my inlet manifold. he been speaking to his guys there and they have now got me worried lol

hes saying that removing the EGR valve will then bring up an error light on the dash? and after a while then the car will go to limp mode?

surely this is a load of shite!!! as the egr valve is only there to warm up the engine so once this is done egr valve is not used??? this is my thinking

what are the gains from egr removal?? annnnnd can a blocked inlet and egr valve cause excessive black smoke?

Wont put it into limp mode mate, only reason I havent fitted it is cos pete at bell auto's turned it off on the remap I have just had done. Mine is closed all the time now, and I have no issues with error lights or anything! Gains arent massive, but it does cool inlet temps and therefore helps to develop mere power! :D

It may bring up a light on your dash it may not.

It shouldnt cause the car to go into limp mode.

I dont think you can turn it off completey via Vag com, only bring the value down so it "hardly" activates...
The only sure way to stop it working is the old bolt into it or removing it completey, but as they say, you get a CEL error code that lights the dash up.. but thats just the snag of removing it, cant change that!

sweet so fitting one is a good idea then and wont do damage :)

jus tthe other question then.... can a blocked inlet cause more smoke this is the main reason im getting the removeal kit as its smoking like a 2 dolla hooker and there is no boostleak from intercooler :)

You would know if there was a boost leak from the cooler, car would feel flat as hell! Where you had it re-mapped??

Sounds like its putting into much diesel to burn...mapping maybe due to that?

EGR wont stop smoking, just stops the build up of oil soot in the valve and the system, where its recirculating the same fumes.. its only clean air its feeding it!

but isnt clean air better and then give it more boost as its better for combustion???

dozza will at ptorque did it... its not the map.. cos when i first got it done it was fine... must be me and my heavy right foot lol (ps when u see the car later the odl gal looks bad.. she got stuck in a field yesterday not reckless driving i was at a farm lol)

Yeah cleaner air is better for combustion, but its down to how much air can get into a certain size valve...

But thats not here nor there, the extra soot must be coming from something to do with the fueling, only other thing i can think of is, if you havent given the car welly for a little while you can deposit a fair amount of soot in the manifold and cat back.. and when you do boot it, your dislodge it.. so after a few days it would clear up, but if it doesnt, its fueling, boost problem from what i read... or the fact your putting your foot down at the wrong time (under 2k) that always causes soot for me...

It can be turned of in the ecu when mapping so it just dont open.

I have the EGR fault causing my engine light to be on. I have vagcom to ensure it's just that doing it. To me, that EGR fault should be a bonus, not a fault. :D

You will NOT get limp mode through EGR removal alone. It will be due to bad mapping or something else giving up the ghost. I've ran EGR-less for a long time now and so glad I have 100% clean air going into my engine.

Could you post up that sequence then please BellAutos, so Vag com users can do this, as we have the way to lower the value on SCN but not shut it down completey and I'm sure many people will be interested in using this process as you dont need to buy a EGR bypass pipe, not just on SCN but other TDI forums, as your a resident tuner of SCN!
Also it helps on the warranty side, as its not removed from the car, but turned off at ECU.

So any custom based remapping company will be able to shut the EGR valve off completey.
Is this something that can be done as a task on its own, or does this need to be part of the mapping core reprogramming.
E.g. can it be turned of without a full custom remapping, is it a simple task?

Only question as if Allards with all there tuning knowledge they still fit a EGR replacement pipe if they could turn it off via the ECU and stop un-nessary CEL codes coming up, that the EGR replacement pipe sometimes does?
