allards EGR valve remover

Yes it is a simple task if the company who is mapping your car is making the files them selfs like i do.

It could be turned off after a remap if it were not done in the first instance of mapping.

I as a matter of course ask my customers if they want it shut or open when im writing the map for there car.

Not sure about ANY custom mapping company as some companys out there dont actualy write there files in the place of instalation, they are sent to head office etc etc

Allards have thier files written for them by trusted bods then sent to them over the net for downloading.

Anyone know which company is behind the bods..??
Just trying to understand how much work e.g. money is concerned when trying to turn off the EGR valve, as to the physical removal off it price replacement?

As to why they sell the EGR removal pipe but dont meation that you can turn it off completey via remapping saving the fault codes...?

Not too sure, when I spoke with Lloyd he said he's got a few people who write his files, not sure theres an actual company he uses....

The EGR valve would be more restrictive to airflow than the Allard race pipe.
All the EGR gubbins sits in the way of the airflow which you don't get with the race pipe. Might not make a huge difference but even so...

I think that Allards use different map writers depending on which turbo.

My file came form Portugal :)

Mine too, but then I have the same turbo. :cartman:

I took some pics a while ago showing the actual passage of air through the EGR manifold, was actually less than with the race-pipe. Not by much mind, but enough for me to think it was not worth keeping (ignoring the nasty recirc thing it does)

Miguel Patrocinio is one of our (portuguese) best chip-tuners and he works (or worked) close with Allard, namely on the VW racing cup race winning Golf TDI150 racer. I know him personally and I assure you that he's very good indeed in what he does. :)

I dont think anyone was doubting his abilitys,
I was merely trying to figure out if its possible to shut the EGR valve permanently via remapping, is that not better than removing the EGR, as you got no chance of a CEL fault lighting up on the dash and also its one part that could remain for purposes of warranty issues.

Or, could the EGR be turned off in a remap before the racing pipe is fitted, that way the ECU wouldnt throw up a CEL fault code!?

For the majority Allard do the removal as part of their FMIC installation. I didn't even ask for mine to be removed but it was, as a matter of course.

With regards to the maps, it is Miguel who does them, for the majority, remotely from Portugal. I've spoken to him a couple of times and he certainly knows his stuff!

Went upto the garage today... My entire engine is in pieces! Having it rebuilt again, with a new bottom end this time... Then I'm definitely going back to Gloucester for a tune up of the map!

Fair enough - just left my own personal opinion on the guy's work since I've known him for some years now.

About the EGR yes I think it's better to deactivate it electronically for two reasons:

- it's cheaper! :D
- with the race pipe you'll experience engine shut-dow shudering.

The 'shut down' shudder isn't that bad... Well you soon get used to it anyway! ;o)

Update on this...

Still not fitted lol

was waiting for my service as my mate will then clean my Inlet for me... before fitting but now im only doing 20 miles a day instead 120 miles taking alot longer lol

car still smoking... and feels more sluggish... my mates fiat coupe 20vt stage1 map was fairly even between the teo of us.. now he just pulls away.

something is choked up so after service.. removing the inlet, fitting the EGR removal, and fitting new clips to the intercooler. if it still smokes ill get it remapped again i think if its going to smoke... might aswell whack the boost up and smoke properly... no part timers here lol

just a word of warning mate i have one of these 1st it didn't fit lol but i have since been told that this egr also doubles as an emergency engine shut down system and witout it the engine has no way of shutting itself down, with regards to smoke mate i won't build your hopes up like allard did with me it made f all difference with regards to black smoke the only plus side for me was that you remove that crappy vw clip which is made out of monkey metal you will discover this when you go to fit it as you have to cut it off did you get the blanking plate aswell??

p.s will have to run into you sometime on call of duty haha adictive or what.....

the standard egr housing also contains the aniti-shudder butterfly valve. This closes when you turn off the engine causing less air to be sucked in , resulting in a smooth, non shuddering shutdown...

When i blanked my egr the startup & cold running smoke lessened, i never had a smoke issue when booting it though.

hey lad, i work for Audi in belfast in Northern Ireland! the EGR valve's main duty is to recycle unburnt fuel only when at idle! after 1000 rpm or so it stops working as standard. thing is there is alot of Audi A4's and the seat dealers next door have the same problem's egr valves clogging up or pipes braking off! there a real hassle, good when they work, but a bugger to de-activate.
P.S going to see a seat ibiza today. i cant wait! least its a big step up from the shite corsa yeo
