In a shed
I'm in the process of a refurb and colour change of my alloys...

I'm ready for the first wheel's clear coat tomorrow and I'm using spray cans.

Also, I intend to let the wheels sit for about 5-6 days to fully harden before applying some sort of wheel sealant/wax/protector - can you recommend something up to the job? I've got some mer wax - would this suit?

cheers

Hey , Cheeky, but can you get some pics up when you are finished ? I really want to refurbish my alloys but wouldn't know where to start ( product wise :D).

There's a thread here with a finished wheel (not sealed or waxed yet - letting paint dry) http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/showthread.php?t=4063104

Things you'll need are:

Wet & Dry Sand Paper (80 Grit, 320 Grit, 800 Grit)
Tack Cloths to remove dirt/dust inbetween stages
Degreaser for removing Wax/Grease from the wheel
P38 Filler for repairs
1 x High Build Primer for repairs
1 x Primer (White or Grey depending on Wheel Colour)
3 x 500ml Colour
1 x Clear Coat
Wheel Sealant (I got Poorboys)
Time

I would leave for a little longer than you have planned, just to make sure the chemicals have all dissipated. Waxing too soon and you could increase the possibility of a reaction with the clear coat undoing all your hard work. Wrt wax, I've never really used a rim specific, I've used both fk1000 and also collinite which tons of people used and the collinite in particular I can confirm lasts an age and make cleaning so much easier.
