Hi

I have put some 18's on my seat leon cupra but they seem to be rubbing against the struts and u can feel it when u drive,I was told to use 5 mil spacers but then i had issues with nuts being to short. My old rims were the standard star fish style(225/45/17).The new rims i put on were 225/40/18 i do not understand y they rub.Not sure if spacers r the way forward. Will realy appreciate any advise

what offset are the alloys?

shoul be et 35

7.5 or 8x18" with the right offset and those tyres shouldnt rub, what suspension do you have on

the wheels you have put on have the wrong offset so you will need to use the spacers and buy a new set of wheel nuts hope this helps matty

Thanks
sorry i am not realy that clued up ? what do u mean by offset ?

I brought them from the the net, but they apprantly came of a seat. They r Alesso.offset ?

not the actual offset, the way the alloys sit in the arche can be changed with spacers.

yours obviously sit too far in the arch to be scraping on the strut.

is it possiable the alloys migh have different offsets.ie two alloys with positive offset and 2 with negative so meaning u will need to make sure u put them the right way round

they were for a seat leon cupra (180) 02 plate,i think it was both sides.just going to check the offset now

tbh, you shouldnt have any rubbing with that offset, 2=3mm isnt that much and iirc the leon cupra r alloys are that offset also, to accomodate the brembos.

where is it catching.... is the car lowered at all.

is it definatly the suspension, does it do it normal or just when on lock

It so annoying not knowing y.It seems to be the tyre it self rubbing the strut, can it be the tyres.I was told to ues 221 instead of 225 if that makes sence.the car rubs when driving straight.it has not been lowered and the suspension is ok as far as i know,it seems to be the width. After putting the 5mil spacers in the drive felt much better, but the nuts were a problrm bing to short

no such thing as 221 tyres mate..

225 are fine with those alloys and the leon

it may be catching on some thing else then, shouldnt do though.

if its okay with spacers then go with them.

5mm should be ok with standard bolts tbh, but to be safe id order some longer.

but if the offset is right, the tyre size is ok, then really there should be no rubbing

have you got evidence of it catching on the strut

the standard nuts woudnt even turn more than 4 4 turns.can this indicate a problem with alloys or the car ? i will check the struts again but there was definate rubbing i could feel it when i drove the car,my traction light also came on once when i had no spacers.is there anything else u might suggest
