I'm looking to tap into your wisdom and possibly get some help with a diagnosis of the problems with my 57 plate 1.9tdi Altea. Issue(s) as follows:
A few days ago it started to whine under load and would go into limp mode (no engine light). It would reset when the engine stopped / was restarted.
Yesterday, I did the EGR valve clean, but whilst it was all dismantled I noticed the lower (offside) intercooler pipe had blown off. As seems to be commonly the case, one of the securing lugs on the pipe was shot - so today I replaced the pipe.
I took it for a run earlier (not caned it and let it warm up first) and about a mile down the road I heard a loud pop / hiss from under the bonnet. Immediately it lost pretty much all power; it'll rev fine but under load when driving it won't go above 2k revs. There's no smoke but the engine sounds very loud on tick over and it's thrown the engine light (I don't have a fault code reader to tell me what the code is). The power loss doesn't reset with switching the engine off / on.
Any thoughts on what it could be.....? I'm fearing the worst - i.e. the turbo has given up?
